FYI, I could see the cassion rigs up and running today from the Monroe St bridge. The confluence is absolutely bristling with cranes right now, it's great.

Awesome shot, Chupper! These are the largest caissons we've seen in a while. Gotta love it. As a bonus, you've included action at 150 N Riverside

Wow I have never seen such huge pilings! I always thought they would just drill more holes to distribute the weight, but apparently not. Nice shot Chupper!

Phenomenal first post! I'm not privy to Case's typical method of procedure, but would the smaller of those two yellow cages be for lowering men down the caisson shaft? (The larger cage is for storing compressed gas)

ADavis, that first pic might be one of the best I've seen on this forum. Great vantage point, amazing picture!

The larger cage maybe used for the larger diameter caisson shaft as several workers can be on it at once and the smaller cage will be used for smaller diameter shafts and only 1 person will be in it.

^Looking on my computer, vs from my phone, it is now clear that the larger one is not for storing gas. What exactly is the purpose of going down the shafts, BVic? Do they have to construct the bell rebar in place?

I just drove by the site. There is already rust running down the precast wavy side along lake street!

Rust sounds like an aesthetic improvement. That wall looks like shit.

Agreed. It's really poorly designed. They must have recently taken the plastic off. I don't remember seeing the detail in a while.

The rust is clearly visible on the back side of the Metra tunnel as well.

Oof that rust... looks like they didn't design a good anchoring detail for the railings.
