Here's a couple photos from a set I have of the Sac skyline in 1988.
In the bottom photo you can see a crane over on K Street in the early stages
of erecting the Renaissance Tower. I'll post some more soon.
All that concrete along the river is pretty unfortunate. Has it changed since?

No; the concrete you see along the river itself is the remains of the wall of warehouses that used to run along the levee. The levee itself is underneath the concrete and still necessary. Just behind the levee/warehouse wall edge, a two-block promenade is being extended into a five-block promenade, with the Sacramento Southern Railroad tourist train running just behind it. Front Street runs behind that, it is the only access road on the west side of I-5; and the massive concrete scar of I-5 isn't going anywhere anytime soon; it was considered necessary to ensure Macy's built a big store downtown back in the mid-sixties, with the added "fringe benefit" of destroying most of the remaining "West End" nonwhite neighborhoods along the waterfront.
S.F. Market. Best butcher and fish monger in Sacramento
Huong Lan. Best Bahn Mi in Sac.
Great new development on Stockton. Ground floor retail with apartments on top. Active Sidewalks and parking in rear. All infill development should be like this.
Morrison Creek. It would be nice to see this restored to its natural state.
Famous Pho joint.
Stockton Blvd.
Two of the great Asian supermarkets on Stockton.
Pho Bolsa. My favorite pho joint in Sac.

I am not sure if you guys caught the end of the first stage on the Amgen Tour on Sunday afternoon as it was televised on Versus, but they really had some really great shots of downtown from their helicopter after the race was over.
Call it lame if you want, but since it was on national television and since I recorded it to watch it later, I decided to take some pics to share with you guys in case you did not catch it. It was really cool to see our city on national television -- but also on a 52” TV and televised in HD!
And also on a lighter note speaking of Sac on national TV, check out tonight’s episode of Two and a Half Men on CBS.com once it is available – Alan and Jake take a drive to Sacramento and spend a night in the Cap City and Jake comes up with a new name for the Kings! Not to mention Jake just loves the name "Old Sac". No pics of SacTown however in the episode but Alan does crack a joke at the beginning about how being dead is better than living in Sacramento.
Bikers as they go under the Cap City Freeway and head into downtown:
Shots around the river side of the city:
Coming a little close to the Darth Vador Building -- I paused it to show how close they came to the top of it....
The best thing for the residents Sacramento to do about this is NOT to dignify this <weak> cheap shot with a response....
Signed a former resident of Sacramento and San Francisco and current resident of the world's most poorly planned and over-rated city (if you could call it that), Los Angeles....
^ Upsetting to say the least. I couldn't believe it when I heard it, I had to run it back to make sure I heard the correct the first time. Sure enough, I was glad when the clock fell out of the car and was demolished, Karma has settled the score. I am now off my box
