BANGKOK | Makkasan Tower | 572 M - Pinnacle / 443 M - Roof | 104 FLOORS | 2010 | N/B

The area of Makkasan is owned by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). Since the actual land is underdeveloped, the SRT has proposed the Makkasan area for commercial purposes in order to correspond to its status as the Central Business District (C.B.D.). It is further awaiting its development as a transportation hub, connecting Suvarnabhumi International Airport to other areas of Bangkok.

The proposed planning for Makkasan project compromises commercial purpose and the recreational purpose following three steps:

Step 1 commercial Approach
Maximizing Floor Area Ratio (FAR)=1:10

Step 2 Architectural Approach
Alternative designing high rise building to at least 100 Storey

Step 3 Natural Approach
Open space ratio (O.S.R) comparing buildable area = 90:10

Holy crap, it's the Ontario College of Art & Design!!!

That is so surreal. I don't think I liked the approach to the towers given the industialish-bracing on the lower part. Would have liked to see the cross-bracing structure pushed up the towers.

I love it. Looks so unreal. The bracing is cool imo. It just gives that railway feel needed for that lot. I also like how the core is exposed at the base. Would make a great place to screen outdoor movies. The design is similar to the Federation Towers in Moscow but these are more intricate.

This is an amazing tower. Would have been a great addition to Bangkok.
