Out on the west coast we've got the whole cable stayed thing going on.

The Pattullo Bridge in greater Vancouver (connecting New Westminister and Surrey) is being replaced. The province is financing the entire thing, and taking it off the hands of Translink.

they just opened the new johnson street bridge in Victoria over the weekend, the new one replaces one from 1924. The new one looks wider but is only 3 lanes.

Of course in BC they'd open up a brand new major bridge in a major region like the capital district and have it only be 3 lanes instead of a nice even 4 lanes. God what a pathetic backwards ass thinking province when it comes to transportation.

Well what's the point in putting in 4 lanes when the road capacity on either side only supports 3?

I agree on most projects BC tends to thing small but there's no sense in increasing a tiny bridge when the feed on either side isn't increased either.

Yeah I would not call that a "major" bridge, just an iconic one.

Also it looks as if the Winnipeg bridge at the top of this page is also only 3 lanes?

So odd lane bridges do seem to be a Canadian thing (though maybe a little more prevalent in BC).
