i noticed that kilometre posts have been installed along some of the Hwy 3 diversions, they must want to be able to clear accidents quickly from the diversions.

What do kilometre posts have to do with accidents?

Kilometre posts help stranded motorists give their exact locations to first responders so that accidents or stalled vehicles can be very quickly cleared.

I went for a drive through the project area yesterday and it's amazing how huge the project is. I wish I could better document it but I don't really know where to stop and start taking pictures! The project is soo big and there's still soo much traffic zipping through the area I don't really know where there's a great vantage point.

If anyone has a chance to drive through the project and check it out I think you should.

Pretty much nowhere if you're driving. When I take my photos I'm either out on my bike or on foot. And even then it's tough to get a good shot because they've got everything cordoned off right up to the street usually.

The only places I can really think of off the top of my head are around Howard Rd. There's an abandoned building with a parking lot you can probably park in and walk off to shoot photos without getting in trouble. http://goo.gl/maps/lzyDk

Chelsea drive and the end of Grosvenor face right onto the trench, you might be able to pull off there and shoot some photos as there's almost no traffic. There is a fence but you can lift you camera over it. Grosvenor now dead ends at the trench and there's no fence, just a big "Do Not Enter" sign. I imagine Surrey Dr. and Montgomery Dr. are similar.

A few places I've taken pics from:

I was just out there today. Some observations:
  • Lane closures have begun on E.C. Row. It's down to 1 lane each direction between Huron Church and Ojibway Parkway
  • Part of Howard Road is shut down. I guess to re-route it out to the new roundabout.

  • Looks like some of the tunnel walls are starting to go up

  • Another diversion road between Cabana and Labelle is getting close to completion. A new (temporary, I guess) intersection is being built to replace (I'm assuming) the one at Lambton Rd / Grand Marais Rd

  • Looks like the piers for a ramp

  • Trillium Court seems to be empty now. I think they'll demolish it soon. The trench is slowly inching towards it.

All photos mine.

I'm going to assume a special/documentary will be made. Projects like this don't happen too often, especially in this day and age.

Windsor-Essex Parkway: One Year Later
Quote:
Nearly a year to the day since ground was broken for Ontario’s largest infrastructure project, provincial officials say the Windsor-Essex Parkway remains on track and on schedule — although they are guardedly vague about precise timelines.

More DRIC trouble?

Seems there is a powerful lobby group attached to this project. Read the article here:

More new pics. All from the area between Lambton Road and the expressway.

The new diversion has been painted:

More pics for ya!

Looking north from Trillium Court:

Trillium court is now emptied. It's days are numbered.

The beginning of the new diversion. Taken at Todd Lane and Huron Church.

A few weeks ago I saw they were building piers for the flyover ramps. Now it looks like they're getting ready to pour the ramps themselves. I couldn't get close to the site so this was the best shot I could get:

Huron Line and Hwy 3

Stacks of concrete blocks for the tunnel walls

Great shots! Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised that Trillium Court is still standing, I thought they had finished the demo for the project.

Great shots - if I still lived in Ontario, I'd be heading down to Windsor to check this impressive project out a few times.

It's quite impressive the progress they are making, I drive by about once a month as my wife's family lives in Amherstburg...everytime I go to turn onto Howard (once the 401 ends) it's just amazing the progress.

Looks like a new place everytime we drive up.

There is a path that goes along grand marais ditch that used to go to a park on the other side of huron church called 7 hills. When they started the construction, they had a path detour so people could still get across the highway but now, the detour simply dead ends and you get yelled at for being in a construction zone. I wish they would be more considerate of the many, many people that use the path.
