New mixed-use hotel at 98th & King George received 3rd reading (Preliminary Approval) Monday night.

This is across the street from The Hub at King George. Should start construction around the same time. Will mean 5 towers going up in that area all at once (The Hub (3 towers), Concord, Hotel).

Hotel will be a Hampton by Hilton brand.

Nice architectural design with many sustainable features, and a slim profile.

30-storeys above a 6-storey podium.

Will consist of:

181 residential dwelling units
112 room hotel
8 two-storey ground-oriented townhouses
133 square metres (1,432 sq. ft.) of ground-level commercial space.

Nice!

Thanks for posting.

107.5 m tall (30 storeys in total, including the podium)
The hotel is only 4 floors behind the fritted glass.

At first I thought the angular appearance was from balcony railings,
but then realized that the balcony floorplates are parallelograms with alternating skews each floor.

Just for clarification its 30 storeys total. 24 storeys over a 6 storey podium.

Reminds me a lot of Theatre Tower here in Toronto:

Yes that building came to mind for me as well! Very similar except i'm liking how the 'exo-skeleton'-like balconies wrap around all sides of the Surrey tower as opposed to just balconies on the front.

This is a slick looking building and seems wholly unsuited for the Hampton brand which to my understanding is very middle of the road. This really should have been a straight ahead Hilton hotel. Hampton Inns are usually in squat four story buildings and don't look very impressive. Is it possible Hampton by Hilton is an altogether different brand. Or has Hampton gone upmarket?? Would appreciate if someone could provide feedback.

The hotel is only in 4 storeys of the podium.
Amenities are a shared exercise room, pool and breakfast area and lounge.

^It is intentionally a mid-range hotel. The developer was saying at the public hearing how this hotel will provide an alternative lower price-point to the 5-star Civic Hotel in the area.

Looking in more detail, and from the planning report, the podium fronting King George will feature "An abstract pixelated image of a British Columbia landscape fritted (printed) on the curtain wall glass"

^That big grass field is Century Group's 'Holland Gardens' site.

The hotel site is the small narrow site next to the CRA building south of the concrete tower.

The hotel will serve the growing 'Innovation Boulevard' medical/technology district, as well as other business and personal travelers to the area. Will also offer accommodation for Holland Park Festival goers in the summer months - FVDED festival (Lots of people from out of town attend) and Fusion Festival.

^White Rock beach needs a parkade. That area is really busy and the current parking situation is inadequate.

Guess residents prefer long traffic jams of people idling in their cars along Marine Drive looking for parking.

I don't understand why they don't just do an underground parkade with condos or apartments above.

There is a new condo building under construction (or recently completed?) on Marine Drive right in the heart of the beach strip - probably doesn't have public parking through.

New proposal just south of Guildford Mall for 2 mixed-use residential towers.
