When Barnett first stated the tower would be 1550' a few years back, he said there would be no "gimmicky" spire and that the highest occupied floor would be 1550' implying at least a few more floors for mechanical/parapet... (that was way before there were any renders of any sort)

Source is... Erm... Very close to the design process, has access to architectural drawings and I saw them. So as to keep his secrecy and job, I won't say much more. Would they really punish that badly for leaking this anyway? Haha.

A spire did look quite nice up top, maybe things will change back, who knows? Always up in the air, and why no official word from Barnett/Extell?? Why all this secrecy?!?

Some senior looking guy from Lend Lease told me a few weeks ago that the roof would be a lot taller than 1,520, and he clarified that he spoke of the roof -- not the spire. I took it with a grain of salt. That being said, this tower, while attractive, is not as nice as 220 CPS, Steinway, or Verre, and has the worst location of the four projects. Thus, massive height is Gary's best selling point, so he's uncentivized to augment it.

Not to mention, while we don't know what Park Lane will look like, it has the absolute best location of all these towers, and I'm sure its design will be spectacular.

^^^^

Could be that Barnett will make the roof taller, and add the ability to have more units versus a spire. Either way, if it does happen, greater roof height > spire.

Amazingly, even at 1,550', this may not be NY's tallest. It's entirely possible that 80 South St will be taller.

Only in NY, lads!

I'm taking this all with a grain of salt unless YIMBY leaks something on their website. YIMBY has had a very solid track record in regards to this tower.

The cantilever is enough. I can do with out the "1 foot short out of respect" spire.

Yes, 2 much mystery. Roof, parapets , spires constantly changing highs. I mean what's the big secret? how many other towers in the 1,700 to 1,900 foot range r planed 4 NYC?

I wish they could just release renderings the first day. This won't even be that tall compared to whats rising in China. If it was the 2nd tallest in the world, than the suspense is worth it, but this is another tower which by 2020 won't even be in the top 10. Nothing really worth the secrecy.

Although I hope Park Lane and 80 South Street surprise us.

Your a little late on this one, over at skyscraper city the pictures indicate that the core is already a full floor above street level!

Perhaps... but one billion dollars isn't a lot compared to the money Bill Gates has, but it's still one billion dollars.

It's about as high as the Shanghai World Financial Center or ICC in Hong Kong which are very significant buildings in China, so still pretty tall.

I am afraid you are mistaken my friend, this is in fact central park tower. You can see 220 CPS's crane in the background.

I'll definitely take 1550'+ with no spire over 1522' with a spire. 1550' for a top occupied floor per Barnett's original proposal would mean a parapet/roof over 1600', possibly even 500 meters (1640')...

Yeah, I can see that. When it will completed? I can see that they will be completed in 2018. It will take 3 years to be built.

That's 220 CPS. A small portion of Nordstrom is above level, but it's at the extreme east end of the site.
