Yeah, not news for people in the region, but I can see how this type of report can help support their agenda in regards to the rest of the state.

I grew up in western New York and constantly overheard complaints about NYC being a parasite/should break off from the rest of the state/insert additional insanity here. There was absolutely no appreciation of the fact that NYC drove the state economy. I can only assume that the same holds true in PA when agencies like SEPTA are trying to fund projects with state money.

The Navy Yard is home to more than 150 companies employing 13,000 employees occupying seven million square feet of office and industrial space spread across dozens of buildings. According to PIDC, around ten percent of Navy Yard workers commute using the free shuttles.
Really, why are they dragging their feet on this extension? Is the cost actually going to be that high for a mile of tunnel? And if so, is there an at-grade solution that would be more cost-effective? It just makes me want to

I think the article implies that they're in preliminary talks.
Regardless, the fact that there is a push for it at all, with two plans proposed is more than what has been done in the last 10 years.

makes sense; hopefully they plan on electrifying the service if it moves forward. Didn't septa abandon this route because they ditched the diesel trains? I think most of the old stations still exist through to Reading. It'd be kind of cool to be able to take a train from center city to the valley forge station.

Lincoln drive certainly needs the improvements. I hope it is enough. Glad to see Federal dollars going towards this project. Wonder who pulled that off.

Next month the Delaware River Port Authority will begin testing a new fare card that will enable joint use on SEPTA and PATCO.

The updated PATCO FREEDOM Fare card be tested with 50 riders who frequent SEPTA and PATCO regularly during a pilot program kicking off June 25. The new fare card will be tested for at least two weeks before the goal of overall implementation by August, according to the Courier-Post.

Enabling PATCO riders to use the FREEDOM card on SEPTA will help eliminate the need for a paper transfer ticket, which SEPTA is phasing out for the overall system this summer. Starting at the 8th & Market station, PATCO riders can transfer to the Market-Frankford or Broad Street lines, as well as buses, using only the FREEDOM card at the ticket gate.
I never need to use PATCO so I don't know how this is from a rider's perspective, but it seems to make sense. Too bad they didn't cut a deal to share the cost/usage of the septa key platform, unless that's already in the works.

cool, do we know yet if the first phase is supposed to be diesel or electric? They specify diesel for the second phase, but I didn't see anything mentioned for the first. It'd be great if it was a true extension of the Norristown line with no need to transfer trains.

Judging by the article, I would say that they are actually considering electrifying the line all the way!

Walker’s report also calls on SEPTA to consider abandoning the Route 15 trolley, which mostly runs along Girard Avenue, and replacing it with a high-frequency bus line, citing the streetcars’ inability to get around double-parked cars and other obstacles that frequently obstruct its path.
No! Aren't the trolley's some of their better performing routes?
