São Paulo Diaries

Tomorrow I'll complete 9 years living in São Paulo. That's why I decide to open this thread posting random pics taken between 2018-2021 and shows the city the way I live it. Pics without frame, focused in few specific districts, bars, restaurants, interiors and even pics of my two places.

I guess it would be impossible to showcase a metropolis as big as complex as São Paulo, that's why I believe this personal approach would be the best. I'll avoid to describe pics, but if you have questions, few free to ask.

Hope you enjoy it.

Nice! I can't wait to see more. I love photo threads of places where the photographer lives, that show/express how the photographer lives, rather than touristy types of shots, if that makes sense. It makes it more personal to the person taking the pictures.

Thank you, Sopas! Indeed. When we live in the city, pics are completely different. They might look uninterest on the first glance, but they're representing a moment/view that was special enough for you to take a pic. In fact, I don't know why it took me so long to open a thread like this.

BTW, I LOVE your Los Angeles thread. Every time I get there I have this urge to take a plane and move there! You really know how to capture the essence of the place.

I somehow really connected with this thread; the shots of your apartments and views really got my attention. I see you like plants, and I love you how included them in your shots, even the one out the window. I like plants too, they really liven up even the coldest of interior spaces.

Thanks, man! I actually was only going to do that thread for precisely one year, and then stop. It was going to be a semi-documentation of my area during the COVID pandemic, but then it evolved into something else... It's funny because I also started seeing it as a photo diary, and yes, what some people might think of as mundane or ordinary or insignificant, has some meaning for me. And it's funny because in the past, when I showed people my vacation pictures of cities, I'm the kind of person who takes photos of manhole covers or sewer grates because I find them interesting, especially if they're not like the kind I'm used to in my city, and then my friends/family will say "Why did you take a picture of THIS??"

Have fun taking your photos! Again, I can't wait to see more. I've been wanting to visit Brazil but have never gotten around to doing it. I'm sure I would find São Paulo to be very interesting!

Thank you! Yes, they bring some confort, some calm, specially in a city like São Paulo where this raw urban feel is overwhelming sometimes. I love them.

Your thread makes me feel I'm in LA and probably those were the places I'd like to know. Obviously as tourist you won't make the sense of everything, but I try to experience cities from the point of view of people living there.

About São Paulo, I'm pretty sure you will love it. It's perfect for people like you that like big cities while paying attention on the details. If you come to visit, let me know!

Yes! As I said, it's random pics, nothing to showcase the city. Some sort of my life here, really.

Oh and the street art is huuuuuuge, it's gotta take a lot of work and planning to do each one. I love this motorway you can walk down - are the buildings getting more 'canvased' because of it?

Yes. Variety of architectural styles are a São Paulo characteristic. Some might find it chaotic, but I learned to like it.

Yes. It became almost a public art gallery with worldwide famous artists such as Eduardo Kobra.

Note buildings from that period (1960's) have a façade completely free of windows because other building should be built glued on it. As newer legislations stopped that, they were left this way.

Now, with the São Paulo new urban code, buildings once again can be built touching each other, but only Downtown, if I'm not mistaken.
