Population growth in Saint John is actually accelerating due to immigration, especially from mid east countries. A big employment announcement will hopefully get more momentum going. Years ago everybody knew somebody moving away now it appears the opposite is true

Any reason for the disparity between Rothesay and Quispam?

If you combine Sussex, Sussex Corner and Sussex Parish the population is around 8,336. They averaged 3.9% growth for 2011.

As comparison, Oromocto is at 8,932.

Yes, I think that is surprising as well...

I was also surprised as to what led the population growths in Blacks Harbour (+3.2%) and St. Andrews (+5.1%)...

Rothesay doesn't have the same kind of physical area Quispam does, and the Q's council and staff are much more development focused than Rothesay's. Just different approaches, I doubt Rothesay is disappointed by the lower growth numbers, they generally favour being more "small-town" in their mentality.

Regardless, there are many forumers that at least contribute with ideas about how we may improve Saint John -- and this is appreciated by myself; as well, I appreciate your parody.
I applaud your concern for Saint John and your passion for urbanization but if you want to be effective sooner or later you will have to propose solutions not just state the obvious.
Speaking out against urban sprawl and listing the negative effects it has on the downtown core and on the cost of delivering services is repeating what we have know for decades.
Obviously, many of us don't share your pessimism about Saint John's ability to respond to the challenges of suburbanization.I bet more than $20 milion on our Harbourfront condo project [backed up by persnal guarantees] in part because I believe that many suburbinites want to experience what our downtown has to offer.
We can spend endless hours discussing the issues but at the end of the day, words are meaningless without action.
What all cities want and need are realistic solutionsto urban sprawl that have worked elsewhere that we can implement here new ideas that will attract public and political support and are financially viable.
Share this with us and you will have my undivided attention.

Not just "many years of decline," we're talking about the first positive population growth in Saint John since 1971 -- more than 40 years!

I'm really excited for this to be completed! It's going to make it a lot easier to travel in any direction from either Rockwood Park or Bayside Drive.

It's not that far a commute from the Saint John or Moncton areas to Sussex. I've known lots of people doing the drive from Saint John to Moncton or Fredericton every day for extended periods, Sussex is a pretty easy drive in comparison.

Thanks for mentioning that! I wasn't actually sure how many years it has been. More than 40 years is pretty significant!

Thanks for the glut of photos, Erick!

I'm surprised to see that Water Street customs building under renovation again. Wonder what they're doing to it this time...

Also, I love the St. Hubert's little yellow delivery cars! XD

I noticed the St. Huberts was open while driving by around 6:30 this evening. I was thinking maybe it was a good time to check it out. First, the parking lot was absolutely full, then, the lineup was right from the counter to the door.

Somebody let me know how good it was, I'll try again later...

I just got back from there.

2 White meat club's with fries for both and 2 cokes, and an extra coleslaw. Total price was $30.85. I'm very full, so it was worth it.

My receipt says 2:04PM. So the entire process from entering the drive thru, ordering, and waiting, was only 7 minutes. Food was very hot and not undercooked. I will be back sooner rather than later.

I won't be returning to Swiss Chalet in the near future.
