San Antonio's oldest neighborhood is getting some badly needed care.
When the work is finished, the historic village of La Villita, a venue for shopping, receptions and special events, will have updated, wheelchair-accessible restrooms and will look better than it has in years, officials said.
But she's delighted that the work to their 1855 structure, a one-story house known as Building 24, is being done.
It's an area that hasn't been cared for properly over the years, she said.
La Villita originated in the 1700s as a group of huts inhabited by squatters and farmworkers during the Alamo's mission era. European settlers built limestone and Victorian houses there in the 1800s.
