Lynn Canyon in North Vancouver

North Vancouver is the best city I've been to when it comes to nature and parks, although some might say it doesn't belong in this thread, because it's right where the city starts to blend in with the mountains. It's all accessible by public transit though, and Lynn Canyon for example is surrounded by residential neighbourhoods on 3 of its 4 sides.

Here are the main ones in Ottawa:

Major Hill's Park

Confederation Park - Probably my favorite as it's surounded my towers and makes it feel like a mini Central Park

Hog's Back/Vincent Massey Park/Mooney's Bay

Mer Bleu (A little less urban but still in the greenbelt between inner city and outter city.

Bowness Park is one of those gems I still haven't been to. I heard they've done more than a few improvements to it after the flood.

King's Square, Saint John (NB) is a gem of an urban park.

My favourite in Halifax is probably the Public Gardens

Source

It is full of 19th century features and rare plants and is right in the middle of the city.

(my photo)

The Commons are more utilitarian parks and public facilities (tennis courts, etc.). This land was set aside for public use in 1749; in the early years it was used to graze livestock, provide camping grounds for visiting soldiers, and provide a clear firing area from the Citadel to make it easier to defend the city.

Source

Point Pleasant Park is another nice one, a rough analogue of Stanley Park in Vancouver. It is mostly forested, with some monuments and a mix of 18th and 19th century fortifications.

Pacific Spirit Park in Vancouver

Pacific Spirit Regional Park is Vancouver City Proper's "other big park", and it's actually twice the size of Stanley Park.

Actually, Pacific Spirit and neighbouring UBC are technically in an unincorporated area, but it's basically Vancouver City Proper.

Source

Pacific Spirit is over 2100 acres with 75km of trails.

Source

The trails lead to several beaches:

And there's also a beautiful rose garden nearby at UBC:

In my mind, it's a clear #1 for Stanley Park, with Mount Royal a solid #2 as far as the greatest in Canada.
