Yes, that's a car vending machine Carvana's building in Frisco next to Toyota headquarters

The city approved plans in February for the development, which will have seven levels of car displays in a glass tower.

Along with the tower, there's a one-story building and parking lot surrounding the new dealership, plans filed with the city show.

Turner Construction is building Carvana's Frisco sales center, and WHN Architects designed the facility.

The Frisco building will be ready early next year.

Builder JPI starting new apartment communities in Richardson and Farmers Branch

Dallas-based builder JPI said Monday that it will build a 420-unit rental community just south of the $1.5 billion CityLine development near North Central Expressway. JPI's Routh Creek project will open in mid-2018.

The urban-style apartment community is adjoining Richardson's 58-acre Spring Creek Natural Area, which is on the east side of U.S. Highway 75 and south of Renner Road.

The nature area includes five miles of hike-and-bike trails.

The Routh Creek apartments will be between two DART rail stations.

JPI also said it's building a second, 424-unit apartment community in Farmers Branch in the Mercer Crossing mixed-use development.

The apartment community on the south side of LBJ Freeway near Luna Road will open in early 2018.

Tire company makes big distribution hub expansion in Grand Prairie

One of the largest tire manufacturers in the world — Continental Tires — has decided to expand its North Texas distribution hub in Grand Prairie.

To accommodate Continental Tires, Indianapolis-based Duke Realty Corp. (NYSE: DRE) plans to expand its facility by 282,507 square feet, bringing the total footprint of the building, called Grand Lakes 4003, to more than 1 million square feet of industrial space.

Atlanta developer lands in southern Dallas County with warehouse project

Atlanta-based developer Core 5 Industrial Partners plans a 754,897-square-foot distribution and manufacturing building on 41.5 acres of land in Hutchins.

The building will be constructed at 1200 Wintergreen Road near Interstate 45.

"This facility marks Core 5's entry into the market and we couldn't be happier with the site," James Gaddy, senior vice president and managing director, said in a statement. "Wintergreen has outstanding transportation fundamentals imperative for major industrial users."

The building is set to open in June. The city of Hutchins provided tax incentives.

Amazon to open third fulfillment center in Coppell

Amazon will employ 1,000 full-time workers at a 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center to be built in Coppell.

The online retailer is developing the facility, its third in Coppell and ninth in Texas, in partnership with Hillwood Investment Properties and Perot Development Companies. It will be part of the Amazon Robotics fulfillment network, allowing the center to streamline the fulfillment process.

Amazon did not give a timeline on when the newest facility will open.

Luxury movie theater breaking ground at Grandscape

Sherman Oaks, California-based Galaxy announced construction will begin this year on an 85,000-square-foot 16-screen facility. The theater is expected to open in Spring 2019.

Digital sound and projection and luxury stadium seating with recliners will be part of each auditorium, with two large-format theaters featuring DFX projection and sound. The venue will also include a full-service bar and restaurant.

UNT hopes new $70M building will be a 'game-changer'

Construction on the University of North Texas' new $70 million College of Visual Arts and Design building began Tuesday in a move university officials hope will bolster the college's recruiting efforts.

Currently, the College of Visual Arts and Design is spread across seven campus spaces. In addition to the construction of the new four-story, 145,000 gross square-foot complex, renovations will be done on the existing Art Building that's approximately 83,000 square feet.

The new building and the existing Art Building will be connected, giving the College of Visual Arts and Design a total complex of about 228,000 square feet.

The new building is slated to be ready for students by the Fall 2018 semester.

Frisco’s Wade Park secures loan to keep construction moving

Thomas Land & Development has secured an $82.75 million loan from New York-based Gamma Real Estate to help the 175-acre Wade Park development continue construction.

Many of Wade Park’s tenants, including Whole Foods Market, are expected to come online by May 2018, according to Gamma Real Estate.

Thomas Land & Development is working to finish installing utilities and infrastructure, which the loan is helping to pay for, before continuing work on building construction.

Other major tenants that have committed to Wade Park include iPic Theaters, Pinstripes Bowling, Yard House, Hotel ZaZa and a Langham Hotels & Resorts hotel.

Archer Western to build new TEX Rail station at DFW airport in US

The Terminal B station will serve as the last stop in TEX Rail's proposed 27-mile commuter rail project, which is currently being built by the Archer Western Herzog joint venture.

It will begin service next year and also features a walkway connecting to the existing Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) station located adjacent to Terminal A.

TEXRail will extend from downtown Fort Worth, across north-east Tarrant County, through North Richland Hills and Grapevine, and into the airport’s Terminal B.

This line is projected to serve 8,000 riders on a daily basis at nine stations by the end of the first year of operation and by 2035 the number is expected to increase to nearly 14,000.

All nine stations will include ticket vending, covered seating, lighting, as well as security cameras.

Exclusive: Scott Beck to develop new Aloft hotel at Trophy Club Town Center

The 132-room boutique hotel will help serve overflow from the nearby Deloitte University campus, as well as serve other corporate clientele, such as Fidelity and soon-to-be Charles Schwab regional campus, which is expected to hold 5,000 employees upon completion.

The hotel developer, Kriya Hotels, had initially planned on bringing a Hyatt Place hotel to the Trophy Club Town Center project, but that has changed with Marriott International's acquisition of the Starwood-owned Aloft Hotels flag and the growing corporate demand in this part of the region.

Construction on the site — the grading of the dirt — will begin by the end of the month, with hotel-specific construction kicking off by this summer after permits and plans are finalized by the town council in March.

The grading also will serve other parts of the mixed-use development, which include 60,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space serving the Town Center amenity park.

Dallas developer begins $67M expansion of UT-Dallas town center in Richardson

The project, known as Northside 2, will help create a transit-oriented development that encourages students to live, work, study and play in the community.

Plans for Northside 2 include adding 275 apartments and townhomes and more than 6,600 square feet of retail space in a $67 million public-private partnership. In all, the project will add 900 beds to the campus.

Construction is underway and slated for completion in August 2018 before the academic year.

The Porsche dealership will feature 70,000 square feet of floor space with room for 21 vehicles on the showroom floor. Included will be a “Porsche Classic Car Center” with room for two display vehicles.

Terry Powell, who will serve as general manager of the Grapevine dealership, has a long history with Park Place Porsche Dallas, which happens to be ranked number five in the country in new car sales and number one in the country in used car sales.

Shippers Warehouse Inc. Moving Corporate Headquarters to Prime Pointe

A new, 556,000-square-foot, build-to-suit distribution center development is on the way at Prime Pointe, the 3,000-acre industrial park in southern Dallas County.

Duke Realty signed a long-term lease with logistics company Shippers Warehouse Inc. for a second build-to-suit warehouse at the industrial park.

The first building, Prime Pointe 1005, is a 589,362-square-foot distribution center and was delivered in April 2016.

The new building will include 86 dock doors, one drive-in door, and five rail doors, and the corporate headquarters will be located among the 17,500 square feet of provided office space.

The property will include space for 130 cars, 132 trailer spaces, and a 185-foot truck court to accommodate loading.

The new building is planned to be completed in the first quarter of 2018.

Raytheon's old Garland campus will become new business park

An old Garland industrial complex that started out as an aircraft manufacturing hub will be the site of a new business park.

"We are going to build new industrial buildings."

Langford said he plans to demolish more than 800,000 square feet of old buildings on the property, some dating to 1957.

Langford said he and business partner Brian Flaherty plan to start demolition of the old Raytheon buildings right away.

The developers plan to build two office and industrial buildings with almost 800,000 square feet.

Mesquite lands huge $65 million furniture distribution center project

Ashley Furniture Industries Inc. will build a $65 million, 850,000-square-foot southwest regional distribution and fulfillment center on 358 acres in eastern Mesquite.

The project will have a full-time employment of 350 workers after it opens.

Mesquite has agreed to provide tax abatement incentives and will waive development fees for the project.

The new warehouse will be at 790 Faithon P. Lucas Blvd.

Lighting firm moving HQ to Frisco's new Park 25 business park

Frisco has landed a second business for its new 216-acre Park 25 business park.

Stream Realty Partners said Wednesday that it will build a 152,000-square-foot office and industrial building to house PowerSecure Lighting and other tenants in the project on Preston Road.

The LED lighting products firm will move its North Texas corporate headquarters to 76,000 square feet in the building.

Construction kicks off on 17-acre park in Richardson's CityLine project

The first 11-acres of the Fox Creek Park at CityLine will include a footbridge, pedestrian and bike trails, a pavilion and playgrounds.

The park located north of Renner Road is the largest of three public areas in the huge development that include State Farm Insurance's regional office campus.
Construction on the first phase of the park is scheduled for completion by the end of 2017.
