PORTLAND, Oregon | nightcrawling

I wanted to do something a little different, so I only included night (or early morning, pre-dawn) photos in this thread. Hope you can deal with the lack of variety.

Awesome, as always! No worries, plenty of nighttime variety and beauty here. Makes me reeeeaaallly wish my cam took night shots! I feel like I just wandered the city by myself, sleepwalking or drunk. Not sure. Lots of great shots -- one of my faves:

Beautiful photos, very sharp! Night photography is so fascinating, as it brings out an extra dimension of interest in urbanity, not available during the day.

My cousin just passed here on his road trip and told me how much I'd like it. These pics assure me that I will. Great job

Those are some sharp night shots. Excellent set. I particularly liked this:

And also the moon shot w/pine tree silhouettes.

Wow!! Love the way the mass of the buildings really comes out in the dim light. This shot just has everything:

Love the long-exposures! You have a lot of talent for those. Missed a lot of these spots on my last visit out there and it's great to see photos of the places i didn't get to. You also put together a really comprehensive look (looks like you used a star filter). Too much sunlight kind of takes the detail out of those buildings and kind of makes them blur into each other, imo. Long-exposure shots are cool because you manage to see the detail and you capture the activity.

Thumbs up

Wonderful pictures, Sekkle!

Thanks a lot for sharing with us. I like very much night photography.

Your pictures are very sharp and with beautiful colours, and I know this is not easy.

The pictures I´ve liked the most are the skyline ones. However, it´s a pleasure to watch everyone.

Congratulations and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

When were these taken? Will you be posting more? I loved seeing these views of portland. See, this is a cool way to get a look at a city. You did a great job, I really like the night shots. Miss not being somewhere like oregon just looking at them. You must have enjoyed it...Beautiful work.

Thanks. No filter of any kind on the lenses for these shots. I agree with you - something that might not make a particularly interesting photo in the daytime can take on a different dimension under artificial light.

These were all taken over the past couple months. Many were very early in the morning (between 5 and 6am) on my way in to work. Others were taken in the evening. It may be a while before I have enough night shots to do a whole new thread (since it's now light outside by 5:30am or so), but I'll continue to mix them in with daytime shots. There are lots more night shots mixed in with my older photo threads - this one has a lot, and there are lots scattered in the other threads too.

OK, you win! Despite what you say, I find a lot of variety here, and it's pretty impressive to see such a strong, crisp, colorful, and creative collection of images all taken during the post-dusk/pre-dawn hours.

I especially appreciate them, knowing how much of a pain in the ass it is to set up the tripod, put the camera on a timer to minimize vibration, and wait 10-30 sec for the picture to pop out! Lots of dedication behind these shots!
