I don't mind One Palliser that much. At the very least, it has symmetry and the windows are pretty much continuous.

There's much more heinous shit in DT Calgary, and even worse stuff outside the core.

Yeah, I think the sandcrawler is probably the ugliest building in the Calgary CBD. Just terrible on every single level.

One Palliser is just cold and dark, especially in inclement weather. Pretty much anything in raw concrete like your examples is quite ugly.

this one is an ugly complex from the cheap design elements to the tower placements.

Those "green accents" are some kind of fabric membrane installed because the cladding was falling off. The Owner has had a plan to reclad this tower to be more similar to the sandcrawler but it's been at least 5 years and nothing has happened. I'd be a little sad if they re-clad it to become just another anonymous glass tower.

I find it interesting. I can’t think of anything like it anywhere else. It’s like an adjunct office tower built into a parkade. It reminds me of a tetris piece. The thing they cheaped out on that hurt it most was the metal facade they put over the parking. I can’t recall how it was originally supposed to look (white I think) but the renderings looked better. When you’re on 10th it definitely catches your attention. Most of that stretch of 10th has some ugly shit though. Bromley Square, the Mustard Seed tower, the other brutalist parkades.

Edit: Here’s how it was supposed to have looked:

VS what was built:

You can also see they didn’t end up going with the two toned glass.

Give me a break. You still can’t get over the mullions for EAP. That’s one of our nicest buildings.

Those are heinous. I like how this thread has become an offshoot of the Ugly Canada thread.

I didn't bring up EAP. Why are you bringing up EAP? Centennial is shit, IMHO. The sandcrawler is shit too even if there is nothing like it elsewhere. We have very different opinions on this stuff. I accept that. Why don't you give me a break?

This will be a great angle for Stantec given that it has 20+ floors to go. It is middle right next to the taller JW.
