Sandbanks Provincial Parks has some amazing beaches as well. I've never been to Cobourg but I should drive the extra 45 min and check it out sometime.

I was there last year on a weekday during that late September heat wave - the beach was terrific, there was hardly anybody there, and the Monarch butterflies were migrating. It was amazing.

Martinique Beach (longest sandy beach in Nova Scotia around 5 km long and only a little more than 30 minutes from Halifax)
