It is too bad that Downtown San Jose can’t build really tall buildings because of the airport nearby.

The Graduate, Aug 3, 2018:

Looks like it will be a major part of the view from here.

I do hope for the best for SJSU. Recently how many beds have been added off campus and on campus?

San Jose State University Campus Village Phase II was 850 beds, but net was less since they demolished other housing. 27 N. 6th added 119 units, with 2-4 beds per apt. So probably around 1000 students got to live closer to campus, and this will be another 1000.

Downtown San Jose hotel and condo development secures dual Marriott brands

A pair of Marriott International brands will operate a proposed, first-of-its-kind hotel and condo development near the Diridon Station area in downtown San Jose, according to an adviser to the project’s developer.

The project is unique for San Jose's booming downtown core because it pairs hospitality and residential space.

Erik Schoennauer, a land-use consultant and partner with San Jose-based Schoennauer Co., told the Business Journal that the Marriott brands Courtyard and Residence Inn will fly their flags on the hotel portion, which would be built on a vacant lot at 292 Stockton Ave., at the corner of West Julian Street and Stockton Avenue.

The proposal for the nine-story, 97-foot-tall project calls for 311 hotel rooms, 19 market-rate condos on the top floor, and three levels of underground parking with 175 spaces for hotel guests and 19 spaces for condo occupants.

Domed theater site, Winchester/Stevens Creek, tapped for big San Jose office campus development

SAN JOSE — A new plan has emerged that would preserve an iconic domed theater in San Jose and build a large technology office campus next to it, across the street from the Santana Row mixed-use complex.

Santana Row developer Federal Realty aims to build three office buildings totaling 850,000 square feet along with a parking garage next to the dome, near the corner of Winchester Boulevard and Olsen Drive, according to a preliminary proposal it has filed with San Jose planners. More than 4,000 people could potentially work at a modern office campus of that size.

The 13.4-acre site includes the domed former Century 21 movie theater, which opened in 1964 and showed blockbuster films such as “Star Wars: A New Hope” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” before closing in 2014.

Local preservationists waged a battle to help the Century 21 theater ward off the wrecking ball. The city of San Jose granted historic status to the theater in 2014, which assured that any development would have to preserve the domed building.

...
850,000sqft right next to the Splunk office will be build over the next few years now that Splunk has signed a lease for another building under construction nearby. Now if VTA could actually provide transit to the site, that would be a step up.

Are there any other areas of the city that build highrises besides downtown.
