A few from my brief visit to Detroit. Interesting city to say the least. Actually I didn't mind it, quite liked it in a weird sort of way. Wouldn't want to live there though. I don't think this is my best collection..... as pathetic as it sounds I did feel self conscious walking around with my nice camera and English accent!

Wowee. That was great, Xander. I don't recall seeing any people shots of Detroit before, or at least ones that are close up with an SLR lens. That market/vendor thing on the pedestrian bridge (?) seems like a rather cool idea.

Ha, fat women don't seem to realize that the tattoos make them look WORSE.

There are so many great old apartment buildings in Detroit. I can picture in my head how vibrant the neighborhoods were when they were still intact.

Those are (were) the Brewster-Douglass Housing Project. It's funny you should use that term, because that's the housing project the claymation TV show "The PJ's" was based on.

If by "all", you mean ruin porn, then I guess he did...

He clearly made it deep into the Midtown area, yet all he cared to show were the abandoned projects and the few remaining dilapidated mansions in Brush Park? While the Eastern Market shots were interesting for sure, it would have been nice if the photos were a bit more representative of the area.

Greater Downtown Detroit isn't unsafe. In fact, when you take into account the daytime population (workers, students, visitors, etc.) it is one of the safest city centers in the country. He obviously went with the tried and true ruin porn theme, but contrary to what many think, the Greater Downtown area is faily nice. Midtown is thriving, Eastern Market is bustling, the Riverfront is beautifying, the CBD is adding thousands of jobs, dozens of historic buildings from massive skyscrapers to tiny retail shops are being renovated.

Believe me, Detroiters are very used to European tourists with cameras.
