1979: What U/C building is this?

Ferry docking in Downtown Vancouver in 1979 with a building under construction. Anyone know the building?

Looks like Axa Place to me, the gold coloured glass building that holds HSBC.

that's a great pic! that's the old cpr pier b/c, i'm eventually going to post something on it in the vancouver history post. it had beautiful deco facades on both sides, and i'm not sure when it was all redone, but it used to be accessible via a viaduct down granville street, and a service lane. now that's a (thankfully!) lost vancouver! you'd never even know it had been there. like the falsecreek rail yards or the kits trestle bridge.

anyway, the building under construction is probably the horrid axa place. (edit: a jlousa says!)

There was a viaduct above the present Waterfront Road that served the piers (parallel to the water).
I remember an old episode of The Love Boat when the ship (Pacific Princess - puny by today's standards) visited Vancouver and they showed a marching band in front of Pier B-C.

It was originally called the Daon Building, and was very gracefully perched on the edge of the escarpment until construction of the extension of Cordova Street for Expo 86. The Marine Building's perch over the edge of the cliff was similarly truncated when Cordova Street was recently extended again between Burrard and Thurlow.

here's a pretty good aerial photo of the granville street viaduct (city archives):

pier b/c is the one to the right, obviously.

...and the love boat! LOL!
