Three Belgian cities: Brussels, Bruges, Ghent

This is a continuation of my Netherlands thread, moving south into Belgium.

Brussels

Bruges

Ghent

...And I'll end with this collage of delicious Dutch and Belgian waffles.

Awesome! I just love the urban fabric of European Cities -- so much texture, patterns, detail, with splashes of color & a mix of old world & new. The richness of it all is just a treat to the senses. Thanks for sharing!

I never went to Ghent that looks friendly through your pictures, but to Bruges a couple of times, that's a super feeling with their little canals.
It's like a smaller Venice, they say, though I don't find the comparison so relevant cause Venice is much older, also larger and overflowed by tourists all year long .
It's actually not the same feeling. Venice is Mediterranean, while Bruges more northern.

The Flemish absolutely rock with their big plates of rump steaks and French fries full of yummy fat sauce meant for tourists.
They like French tourists like myself, friendly to us but they've been a bit bitchy to the Walloons...
That's silly and useless. We don't need to bitch one another.

Anyway, they are known as lovely craftmen and industrialists full of skills and even poetry whenever they bring their souls on.
Best quality industry over there, very much like the Swiss.
It's worth a visit and paying tribute.

Great photos, thank you for posting. My wife and I visited Brussels and Bruges last year. We enjoyed both cities but Bruges is an absolutely beautiful city.

I love Ghent (I also love Amsterdam, so no surprise)!! Would totally semi-retire there. It's far enough north in Belgium, so that things work, but far enough south so you get good food .

Mikecolley, which was your favorite city? From your wonderful set, I think Brussels would be mine. I have not visited there so thank you for this journey dripping with charm!

It's hard to say. I was very impressed with Ghent, although I didn't get to spend as much time there as I would have liked. It was laid back, but very vibrant at the same time. Brussels is interesting, but it felt like they have an identity crisis. Parts of the city look like traditional Dutch-speaking cities, parts look like French cities, and parts like a generic modern city. Bruges is beautiful, but too touristy.
