Calumet, Michigan

A friend who's a devotee of the Skyscraper page suggested I post these. They're snapshots I took during a recent visit to Michigan's Keweenaw peninsula, where there are a number of historic buildings constructed with the native red sandstone, especially in the small town of Calumet. I thought there were some interesting architectural details in these buildings, especially the multicolor brick work on a couple of structures.

Calumet is an impressive town. Spent plenty of time there. The technical term for the red sandstone is "Jacobsville Sandstone" which was used in many buildings up there and many fine historic structures in Milwaukee and Chicago.

The Calumet theater is an absolute gem. For anyone traveling up that way I highly recommend going on one of the architectural tours during non-performance days.
