Kinda strange to blow all that money on the 3d curve pool glass, and have none left for the hideous and unsympathetically-shaped canopy below it.

Better to wait for a good tenant than take whoever comes along first.
Hopefully there'll be more demand once the Casino moves into the adjacent building.

The grass along the Pacific Boulevard side has gone into a yellow, dry dormant state now, which I suppose is to be expected in the dry summer months. The other plantings along the bridge side are doing very well.

Let's see how that looks in a few years. I find the city wants these projects to incorporate greenery which is fine. However, more often than not it's not properly maintained and things die and get overgrown with weeds. For example, I drove by opsal on Quebec yesterday, its a mess! If it's not going to be maintained I'd much rather see concrete/paving stones used

Nice job on the climbers.
That's one of the few plantings where they've grown vigorously.

Call it in. As far as I know ownership is obliged to maintain their landscaping as approved.

Something I wish the city would extend to lighting features.

.. like trees on the roof.

I also happened to notice that the many trees atop Woodward's look nice and bushy this year.

Woodwards takes great care of their trees up top, even the ones outside the main door get killed every few months from dog urine but are always replanted. The concept of the greenery along the outside of the building isn't even dead and there have been several attempts over the years to revive it, another test is taking place now. Might be beyond hope but it won't be from lack of trying, sometimes things just don't work.

That's good news. I was just thinking bout the ivy the other day. Would be amazing if they could get that to work. Surprised it's been this difficult really, I always thought the tough thing on the west coast was getting things to STOP growing.

Sorry to derail this thread further....

I came across the Oasia Hotel when I was in Singapore a few weeks ago and couldn't help but notice the similarities to Woodwards. I hope they can eventually find a way to make those vines take hold because the end result will be truly spectacular.

My pics.

The grass area along Pacific is now torn up (at least partly) and the trees have been pulled out.

I saw that recently. A bit weird, I don't know what they are doing, or who is doing it (City I guess?)

Edit: Looks like a Creative Energy connection for Arc.

I thought the pipes looked like the insulated pipes used for a Neighbourhood Energy Utility. The North East False Creek Plan will establish a new one, but presumably Concord have decided to link in to the existing Creative Energy network, rather than wait for a new one.

I didn't think Creative did residential. So this would appear to connect from the BC Place system. Is One Pacific on Creative? What about Parq?

It's interesting watching the SEFC one. Revenues are finally reaching equality with the costs, delayed a few years since they are supplementing natural gas with renewable natural gas at a higher cost. Many more buildings will come online in 2018-19. I'm afraid the city will be turning it into a cash cow rather than passing savings along to residents.

Waterworks and Landmark 33 (Concord) built late 1990s are on steam heat from the former Central Heat Distribution (now Creative).
I think all of the Concord lands are connected to it.
