The developer has updated their site with current tenants list and new renders. The anchors are Superstore and Cineplex. I think they will have to close the North entrance to COP as the traffic from Cougar Ridge to the Superstore will overwhelm that little road.

SITE: http://www.trinity-group.com/property/trinity-hills/

TENANTS:
Superstore
Cineplex
MEC
Marshalls
Bed Bath and Beyond
DSW
PetSmart
Craft Beer
Dollarama
Party City
Jack Astors
Montanas
Brown's
Various banks

It could be a mini-MEC like their North Vancouver store. The location does make a lot of sense for them.

The Trinity website has it listed at 30,000 sf. Not sure what that would be relative to the downtown store, but seems pretty big.

Interesting about the Cineplex VIP movie theatre, this will surely draw from the NW suburbs (Crowfoot Cineplex is pathetic and needs to be demolished, the seats are almost as bad as the old Moviedome)

Not sure how convenient the development will be for those of us up on the hill with West Stoney now delayed into the 2020's

Is Trinity funding/building the Sarcee interchange upgrades?

I'd like to see another hotel in that area. The ones across 16th avenue don't leverage their proximity to nature, and this Trinity location has much more opportunity to do just that.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but to me the plan looks a little disjoint, specifically the two taller buildings. Would also like to see the nature reserve integrated more.

Apparently downtown Calgary is 38k sqft, so 30k is definitely smaller but still a pretty decent size. I know enough to totally avoid MEC on weekends, but during the week it's quiet. I do wonder if Calgary really needs all that space, hopefully they're getting a good deal.

I like it when similar stores congregate, it makes it easy to shop around and compare. Like when I'm in the market for a hammock, I know to go to the hammock district.

Also interesting to note is from that rendering the mountains have moved significantly closer to the city. I think this is a smart move on Trinity's part, will definitely stimulate sales, not only in the signage district but development wide. Wonder if this is in their scope of work or "by others"?..

Toronto only has one store so my guess is they will move out of the Downtown to this location.

If they do this means we will probably see something new developed on the MEC site in the no so distant future.

Not enough land left for surface parking lots.</sarcasm> The renders look appealing but the overhead view just scream Deerfoot Meadows 2.0.

One thing I can't determine from the renderings is although that tree'd boulevard looks good, and I'm happy the buildings come up to the sidewalks, is there going to be retail frontages there, or just blank stucco/glass sides of buildings.

EDIT: I guess from the overhead it looks like the north side will be CRUs, not so sure about the south side.

On the plus side, it looks like perhaps other than the liquor store, someone on the boulevard can access all of the rest of the retail without having to cross large parking lots or uncontrolled intersections.

That just doesn't seem to fit MEC's corporate style, I cant see them moving out of DT especially to an isolated location like this one. Is there another possibility? I really want to say there is a childrens store (clothing or shoes?) that is named something along the lines of MEC but I cannot recall for sure.

Edit; Just looking at the Site Plan on their website and the MEC logo sure looks like Mountain Equipment Coo-op. I must say I am very surprised they would move to a location like this one (unless it is perhaps a second location).

Is this really the best use for those lands?

I'm usually ok with development, but this doesn't sit well with me for some reason.

No way they would move out of downtown. Traffic in that store from lunch hour shoppers is huge. Trinity location is not going to be busy except on weekends.
