Ittner-Designed Clark School to Become 44 Market Rate Apartments

https://nextstl.com/2017/09/ittner-d...te-apartments/

Quote:
The Clark School is part of one of the most stunning ensembles of public and institutional architecture in the St. Louis region. The historic promenade just north of Delmar on Union Blvd includes Union Avenue Christian Church (1904), the Cabanne Branch of the St. Louis Public Library (1906), Pilgrim Congregational Church (1906), the former St. Louis Artist’s Guild (1907) — today’s Boo Cat Club — Ittner’s stunning design for Soldan High School (1908), and the former Young Men’s and Women’s Hebrew Association (1925) — the J — at 724 Union. Begun immediately following the 1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair, the Union Blvd promenade recreated in permanent stone and terra cotta what the fair had created out of temporary plaster and staff.

Hopefully the 8th time's the charm on this project.

yep. supposedly the developer plans to install soundproofing. should be alright--maybe even cool--as long as the trains aren't too frequent.

Vandeventer Estates: First market rate homes built in Vandeventer since 1940s

Quote:
Fifty-one single family market rate houses and townhomes are planned for the Vandeventer neighborhood. Located just a few blocks North of Delmar and two blocks west of Grand, phase I of the development will include 43 lots on the 3900-4000 blocks of C.D. Banks and Finney.
Quote:
These homes will be the first market rate, new construction, single family residences built in the Vandeventer Neighborhood since Vandeventer Place was demolished in 1947. Another sign that St. Louis is finally beginning to bridge the Delmar Divide. See our story from yesterday: Breaking down the Delmar Divide.

They would not be cost effective if they did, especially in that area. But I applaud the investment starting to take place north of Delmar. It's very encouraging.

The Euclid is a building where St. Louis' first Shake Shack will go.

St. Louis is converting abandoned gas stations into restaurants as if abandoned gas stations were going out of style.

Benton Park Gas Station to Become Restaurant at 1956 Utah

https://nextstl.com/2017/09/benton-p...ant-1956-utah/

Quote:
Designed by locally respected firm Saum Architects and built in 1937 by Harry F. Sieving, the property operated for decades as Burgherr’s Service Station. Before Interstate 55 was constructed, Utah Street provided an uninterrupted east-west connection between Grand and Broadway. This was a street without tracks, a route that allowed drivers access that was unimpeded by streetcar stops.
Quote:
Chef Chris Bertke will will bring to 1956 Utah a mixed menu with a large selection of clean food options — ingredients that avoid the Environmental Working Group’s “Dirty Dozen” foods most contaminated by pesticide residue. Half of the menu instead will higlight the “Clean Fifteen” ingredients most likely to be pesticide free. Plans include GMO-free, organic and gluten-free options.
Quote:
While the owners are aiming to keep the menu affordable, they also are hoping to go tip-free. A previous venture Carolyn Bauer has run with her husband Sam — food service at City Museum — has succeeded tip-free. Sam says that their average worker there makes nearly $40,000 a year because their hours are more consistent.
