ALT Hotel Proposal

I thought this would be worthy of a poll seeing as so many seem to hate this proposal, but some like it.

Myself, I voted depends on materials. If the facade is stucco, it won't be good, but if it's aluminium or some sort of spandrel type material, it could be good. Painted concrete would even be good.

Neutral, suppose I was just expecting more when I heard Germain Group was building another hotel here.

I don't think it's ugly by any means, and in some ways the simplicity of it will be more timeless than a lot of over-wrought details you see on condos today....but I was definitely hoping for a little more imagination with this one considering the location.

100% dependant on materials. I like the simple massing, and the windows, but if this thing is stucco, then forget it. Other metallic panelling like Alucobond, zinc or whatever metal panelling they are using on Mustard seed would be okay. I'm also giving it points for not being mustard/mocha/burgundy, etc...

^^^Agree the materials could make or break the look of this building. I honestly was expecting something more architecturally out there from the Germaine Group of hotels.

^But the alt brand has been pretty much what is pictured above or worse in Canada. It's trying to be something that is sort of funky post-industrial, but to me it is screaming I took a great old factory-window warehouse building and slapped some stone-stamped coloured concrete on it and got this. It's not hideous, but I don't really like it much.

Points should not be given for not picking atrocious condiment colors. That should be a given out of anyone with a modicum of taste (you know, like a 3 year old).

considering le germain ended up with some of the best "materials" of the last cycle, I have faith this project will be a sleeper hit.

I voted it down but only because its a boutique hotel rather than something from the global chain hotels (Hilton, Marriott, Starwood, Accor, etc). Calgary needs more full service hotels in the downtown core and the Alt Hotels competes for the same clientele.

Hey man, if they can actually get their shit together and get shovels in the ground, which no other hotel project seems to be able to accomplish, than I say all the power to them. Lame design, but at least it's a hotel.

This really really depends on the material. I'd like to see some matte stone or metal, personally.

I like the #windows too. Squares are forever.

I voted "like it". It's nothing special design-wise but a good use for the corner. This would be a hit nearly anywhere else in the city.
