Dog-shaped ice cream treats from Taiwan are freaking out the Internet

Fox News

By Michael Bartiromo

For anyone looking to get a taste of the viral dessert that’s been delighting (and horrifying) Instagram users in recent days, just know you’ll need to book a ticket to Taiwan.

The J. C. Co Art Kitchen, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is responsible for those adorable, almost too lifelike ice cream “puppies” that bear striking resemblances to pugs, Labradors and Shar Peis respectively, The Straits Times reports.

Thanks to viral posts on social media – such as the off-putting one embedded above – representatives for the restaurant have claimed they’re having trouble keeping up with demand for the treats, according to Reuters.

MAYONNAISE ICE CREAM IS GROSSING PEOPLE OUT, UNDERSTANDABLY

The desserts come in three flavors, including earl-grey (Labradors), chocolate (pugs) and peanut (Shar Peis). Each costs between $110 and $188 Taiwanese dollars, or between around $3.50 and $6.

The J. C. Co Art Kitchen, however, can only make about 100 per day, as each frozen treat is made by using special molds that impart each “puppy” with a hairy texture. They are then removed from the molds and given a few finishing touches by an employee before being served.

One customer was quoted by Reuters as saying he/she had mixed emotions about the dog-shaped treat, and even feels “sorry for him.”

"It is as if a dog is lying here and I feel like cutting into him will hurt him,” the patron said.

Taiwan restaurant dishes up ice cream puppies almost too real to eat

Thomson Reuters

Aug 21st 2018 3:17PM

Puppies are on the menu at this restaurant in Taiwan and every day happy customers take pictures and tuck into the them, limb by limb, feeling sorry and happy at the same time.

The Shar-Pei puppies look almost too real to eat but are made chocolate, milk tea or peanut-flavoured ice cream.

J.C. Co Art Kitchen in the southern city Kaohsiung has been serving these treats since last month, making them in special moulds with a special recipe that creates a hairy-looking frost on top of the ice cream.

The ice cream is frozen at minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit so it will keep shape long enough for staff to color the puppies' eyes with chocolate sauce before the wrinkled features of the dog start melting.

One puppy ice cream takes about five hours to make and customers can devour the small ones for 110 NTD (about 3.50 USD) and the larger ones for 180 NTD (5.90 USD).

Thanks to social media, the restaurant is struggling to keep up with demand as they can only make a 100 per day.

Watch: Realistic ice-cream puppies on the menu in Taiwanese cafe

euronews

By Seana Davis with Reuters• last updated: 20/08/2018

Vegetarian-friendly puppies are on the dessert menu at a Taiwanese restaurant.

Thie video shows that the ice-cream moulds of Shar-Pei puppies are so realistic, they almost look too authentic to devour.

J.C. Co Art Kitchen in Kaohsiung is seeing a surge in demand for their curious dessert, which can be made in chocolate, milk tea or peanut-flavoured ice-cream.

The restaurant is only able to make 100 puppies per day, with one canine-like treat taking 5 hours to create.

Each mould is frozen at minus 30 degrees Celsius so that the chefs can hand-paint on eyes with chocolate sauce and perfect their frosty appearance before the peculiar puppies begin to melt.

Prices range from about €3 for a small ice-cream to €5.15 for a larger serving.

Puppy ice cream is scary realistic, but delicious

J.C. Co Art Kitchen in Taiwan is becoming famous for serving one of the most adorable ice cream dishes ever. The dessert is sculpted to look just like dogs, and is made out of chocolate and peanut butter-flavored ice cream.
