Good on him for sticking up for Dube. What a dick move by Gudbranson making a questionable hit on a guy on his very first NHL shift.

Here's Dube's interesting take on the hit...

“I feel like hockey could be the ugliest if we didn’t have a code,” said the 20-year-old Dube. “When you’re going that fast and guys are looking different ways, you have to respect each other and there’s a line. Gudbranson hit me and he apologized.

“But I could have got there quicker. I had my back to him and that’s the kind of player he is — he’s going to take that hit. You can expect that every time. I was just a little bit dazed stepping out there and I knew I had to get to a spot and I just didn’t get there. I blame myself.

“I was looking to tip the puck in and get in on the forecheck. I know I didn’t touch it, but that’s my fault. The hit was fine. He’s just way bigger than me. Maybe he got me a little higher because I’m 5-foot-11 but his arm and shoulder were down.”

Matthews is scoring at will right now. 7 goals in 4 games.

Our salary cap situation next year is getting cloudier every day.

Maybe one day the oilers will actually play. One day...

I imagine the game overseas screwed up their early season schedule. Wouldn't be too happy with that if I was an Oilers fan.

Gudbranson tried to time it perfectly and just missed. Dube definitely put himself in a bad spot though, so they are both equally guilty in my mind.

What a game by Mike Smith last night, Nashville put 43 shots on him and he closes the door! Monahan with the pair and Lindholm with the other goal, he's working out well on the top line!

Happy for my team but disappointed that I originally took him in my box pool and then swapped him out for Ovi last minute. Reasoning was that Auston got injured each of the last two seasons and Ovi is a horse so I thought long term it was a better bet.

But now, from a financial perspective, I'm stuck rooting for a guy who is in bed with Putin while also missing out on that joy of doubly rooting for Auston (from home team perspective and financially).

Of course, in the end, Ovi might win out anyway.

I also passed up on Tavares in favour of Scheifle. Tavares doesn't put up huge numbers so I was hesitant. A lot of people said his numbers would obviously go up on this team compared to when he was in that dire situation on Long Island. I should have listened to them

Also, Tavares is from Sauga and Oakville. Two of my places of residence. Extra incentive to root for him yet I bypassed my emotional attachment.

I didn't like the hit at all, happy he apologized.

Things happen in a fast game like hockey and I'm sure he wasn't out there to injure anyone.

Didn't realize it was a home and home with the Jets. That's a tough schedule for the rest of the month. Caps, Kings, Pens, Blues, and Jets twice.

5 games in but a couple potential goals of the year already between Hertl and now Pastrnak.

Tried to get this in slow motion but it came out pretty stuttered
