Repurposed as a coffee shop is what the applicant shared with the Planning Commission.

Nice. It's about time Rhode Partners updated their website to show more of their good work.

It is so big and bulky and repetitive and I love it.

This one is so bad it's good. Really hope it gets built, not bad height for West Campus and more apartments on the market.

I should've mentioned - this is well underway. They've transitioned from demo to site prep.

This might even be more ugly than the Tooth Tower.

I thought we left utilitarian brutalist architecture back in the late 80's?

It reminds me too much of an early 1980's atrium style hotel.

Bland, bulky, and utilitarian. ...but to each their own.

As someone who has actually worked in more than one 1980's atrium style hotel . . . this thing has oodles of charm, comparatively.

It does have some similarities to the Worthington Renaissance in Fort Worth:

I like it. I just wish they continued the diagonal instead of leaving the gap. Looks unfinished. Perhaps its some sort of architectural statement, or maybe they just missed it on the rendering. I really like the glass on the slant. There's enough going on to make this stand out in the crowd of midrises. It is functional with at least some flair. Glad to see this happening.

I love it. Sure it's big and bulky but at least the facade is quite interesting. I hope the trend of flat walls in west campus dies out and we get more interesting stuff like this. This one and the Aspen Heights building are the most architecturally striking new towers in WC in my opinion.

I didn't realize the lot for this building is so small. It's only about one quarter of a block and all the parking appears to be underground. This building provides 1,155 beds in one quarter of a block with no parking podium! That is Singapore-level efficiency and a huge step forward for promoting a pedestrian-friendly Austin.

Is the lot behind this one in the photo also a construction site? Or is that just the staging site for this one?

It looks like a staging ground to me.

How can this tower be constructed with a crane in the middle of the site?
