Hmmm thats interesting. It would be fairly close to the existing 7-11 though I am sure the surrounding area could support both. It would be closer to the area schools. And there isnt one on that side of Pembina.

Foodie Goodie redux? This concept does not appeal to me. Brandon and Waterloo seem like strange places to launch an Asian themed restaurant. I think I'll pass.

YES Buffet is awesome. Always eat there when I get sent to brandon. Everythings taste fresh. Lots of choices. 12 dollars is cheap for what you get. Should raise the bar for buffets in this city.

Vi Ann is reopening at 1020 Notre Dame:

Nice to see a payday loan store replaced with a restaurant. And nice to see this place back in business.

Good news, although it is tempered somewhat by the fact that the West End is already chock-full of great Vietnamese restaurants... Vi-Ann stood out from the crowd in Osborne Village, but in the West End it will be serving practically the same dishes as a good 10 to 15 other restaurants nearby.

I had lunch at Vi-ann today. I ordered the deluxe vermicelli bowl and salad rolls. The vermicelli bowl was among the best I've had. The salad rolls however didn't show up. The fellow beside me sent back his egg roll because it was still frozen. Growing pains I guess.

It was really busy.

Service was friendly and quick. Plenty of on-street parking available on Notre Dame.

They will do well there once they shake the bugs out because of the good food and friendly service.

Service is very surly at Long Bay down the street and the one at Arlington (Kim Tranh?), I was told by my Vietnamese colleague to stay away.

The one at William and Arlington has amazing soups.

Phuong Nam at Arlington and William is one of my go to places in that area. I think it's one of the better Vietnamese places in town. Vi-Ann may give them a run for their money. What are the hours at Vi-Ann? Is it open late? Phuong Nam is advertizing that they are open until 3 am on some nights.

Seeing as we are on the subject of Vietnamese, at Pho #1 the spicy coconut chicken vermicelli soup is a must try. Everyone I have taken there was blown away by it.

I've eaten at just about every Vietnamese joint in central Winnipeg...most several times, some just once or twice. I order vermicelli bowls 95% of the time, the rest of the time it's pho.

To be honest I find them all of extremely high quality and can't see much of a difference between the different restaurants. The differences are all very subtle.

My personal favourite is the one at Sargent and Burnell, as well as Coconut Grove on Ellice just west of Maryland. I find service to be particularly pleasant at the one on Sargent just west of Arlington (the names have changed and I can't remember them all).

There is not one place that I'd stay away from, although I do find that Viva charges a bit more and gives you a bit less than the others... the fact that it tend to be way busier than the other ones (walking distance from downtown offices) seems to let them get away with that. I'm looking forward to trying out Vi-Ann.

Went to Fatboyburger at IKEA a few days ago. And DANG ! What a tasty burger! Too expensive a place to go too very often but Wow. Taste like Fiveguys..but with more unique toppings. I think I oredered mine with onion rings and fried onions among the usual stuff. ONION RINGS on a hamburger in Winnipeg?!! Yoy usually only see that on Diners, drive inns and dives! Keep it up Fatboyburger !!

Haha, try the one on the corner of Ellice and Wall. It's like eating out of a homeless guy's ass crack.

Is that the new one by the Co-op? That one and Vi-Ann are the only ones in the area I haven't tried yet, although with that endorsement I might not be in any rush to go there.

They are going to have to bring TFW's to staff the restaurants on the Regent strip pretty soon. Kelsey's went under because most of their staff moved on to Famous Dave's and they never caught back up.
