It's a shame about the building on the south west corner of King and James, the replacement wasn't that much taller. At least it looks like Commerce Place widened the sidewalk.

Well Commerce Place does have two towers of that size, but it's true it would have added even more character to that block of james if the Bank of Hamilton building were still there.

Can only lament buildings being threatened today though.

Two way King Street is so... foreign to me.

Great find. I didn't know there was a Loblaws at that location.

That later became the original Delta Bingo, didn't it? And No Frills moved in after the bingo went downtown?

Folks here have issues with pretty well every loss. That building is one of only two or three buildings replaced by others that actually bothers me.

For buildings today I once again only really take issue if it's a downgrade.

Captainkirk, any idea what year this photo was taken? Also wondering if you can identify the building about 1/3 up from the bottom, the one with all that parking behind it (not the highrise apartment building). Thanks.

Photo is maybe mid 60s? Jackson Square hasn't been developed yet.

Are you referring to city hall?

^ Yes. So that is city hall. Continuing southeast, what is that large 6-storey building near the railroad tracks?

It's the Bell exchange building on Jackson, backing onto Hunter. The YWCA would have been built years later beside it's West wall.

Hope you guys don't mind me posting links to Tweets, but Terry Cooke posted photos today of the old bike lane that was on Main/King.

I had no idea that was even a thing before today.

I heard about those - apparently they were badly executed and had people confused. I'm sure a lot of that was just people not knowing what a bike lane was, but it helps illustrate the advantage of well designed bike lanes over simple painted lines.
