My husband and I spent a few weeks in Europe back in December and ended our trip in the Finnish Arctic Circle. A friend of ours meet up in Helsinki and we all flew up together. You can reach Lapland by train for fly up from the absolutely beautiful capital of Helsinki.
Every year we go on some type of adventure trip and this was probably my favorite. I would highly recommend a trip to the Arctic. It is just absolutely beautiful and pictures cannot do it justice. I apologize for the clarity of the photos, something happened when I copied them over from flicker.
We did not visit the capital or largest city of Rovaniemi, so this is not a "city tour"
Location of Ivalo Airport, Lapland
Landing is always fun in the Arctic
I was surprised how modern the Ivalo Airport was for such a small facility. It offers year round flights to Helsinki and seasonal flights to many major airport hubs.
We just had a presentation on Lapland last week. Tis on my list of places to hit now.

Nice, rare tour. Isn't it said that Santa Claus is from Rovaniemi? Anyway, there is a Swedish Lappland as well.
Living in the south of Sweden, this is culturally and geographically as far to me as it is for you. Have never been north of Stockholm to be honest.
beautiful pics. thanks! They reminded me of a funny movie I saw from a few years back called "Lapland Odyssey." Check it out if you have a chance (I think it's all on youtube)--
