H'mm, hard to tell if that's actually construction or just seawall reconstruction and just pushing stuff around. Tell you what though, that's a narrow lot!

Classy tower.. hopefully Miami continues to build these designs, better than the boxes they often build.

Do boxy designs do better in hurricanes?

I don't know, but I would assume so. However, the reason I said that is because Miami needs to break out of the box design-wise.

No, not necessarily. They're concrete condo towers, so the "design" is going to generally be a boxy concrete form. And they're far cheaper to design and build, in general. You might have some curved balconies, but the condo towers are mainly the same general template... a concrete box with balconies that really only differs from the finished project by a coat of white paint and blue glass. From a cost standpoint, they "do better" in hurricanes because flat glass window panels are easy and comparatively cheap to replace.

Boxes and cheap apartments like that are are the bane of cities, making them ugly. They've ruined many a town. I wish folks would demand more interesting buildings. Maybe then the cities would look nicer. European cities for example show this.

First the Porsche Design Tower and now the Aston Martin Residences! Where's the Lamborghini Tower and the Ferrari Place developments to continue naming towers after luxury car makers?

Getting excited to see this go up, but I'd really like to see a Lotus tower, you know, built out of aluminium and carbon fibre. Of course it would have very tiny studio apartments with low cielings, but you'd enjoy the elevator ride despite the tight quarters.

It's under construction. They are doing piling and working on the foundation. This tower should be in the U/C section.

Naysayers on Next Miami were saying that this was never going to happen, that they were just pushing around dirt.

Aston Martin Residences Files To Install Two Cranes, Up To 889 Feet High

Quote:
Two tower cranes could soon be installed at the Aston Martin Residences construction site.

According to a July filing with the Federal Aviation Administration, one of the cranes would become (temporarily) the tallest structure in the city. The first crane would rise 889 feet, or 887 feet above sea level. The second would rise 851 feet, or 849 feet above sea level.

Review by the agency is still pending.

Aston Martin Residences itself is approved by the FAA at a height of 816 feet above ground, or 820 feet above sea level. It is set to become the second tallest building in Miami, behind only the 868-foot Panorama Tower

Construction began in October 2017.

Making a splash: Aston Martin Residences to offer yacht service to beach as latest amenity

Quote:
The developer of the Aston Martin Residences in downtown Miami is aiming to make a splash with the latest amenity offering: a butler service that takes owners from the luxury high-rise to the sand – via yacht.

G&G Business Developments is working with International Booking Services LLC to offer the amenity, which includes home management and luxury travel support. G&G, owned by the Coto family of Argentina, is also working on deals with beachfront properties that would give residents access to those beaches. A spokesperson declined to identify the sites.

The plan to offer residents their own beach – despite the building being located on the bay at the mouth to the Miami River – isn’t new for the future 66-story, 391-unit tower Aston Martin Residences. In May 2017, the Miami City Commission decided not to pursue an unsolicited and controversial bid to build a $4 million pavilion at Virginia Key Beach Park – a historic beach that was once segregated.

FAA Approves Two Cranes At Aston Martin Residences Construction Site, Up To 889 Feet

Quote:
Installation of two tower cranes to allow for vertical construction at Aston Martin Residences has been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The application to install the cranes was submitted July 13 and approved today, October 29.

According to the application, two cranes will be in place at the 300 Biscayne Boulevard Way job site for around 19 months.

One crane will rise 889 feet, while another will rise 851 feet.

The Aston Martin tower itself is approved at 816 feet above ground, or 820 feet above sea level. Brickell’s 85-story Panorama Tower is the only building in Miami that is taller (868 feet above ground).
