If its not a giant precast garage then its probably a staging thing. Build the tower totally separately from a structural standpoint so you can launch the tower and then come back and build the complicated garage ramps and floors while work continues on the large tower above. We all know how long podia can take to construct, just look at River South tower 1. Now imagine being able to do that while the rest of the tower is rising at full speed.

One Grant Park Becomes Part of the South Loop Skyline

One Grant Park, from 27 Jun, becomes visible above the trees as part of the South Loop skyline, seen from the NOAA Webcam located on Lake Michigan.

I kind of been thinking the same thing every day when I walk past. I've been wondering if maybe it's part of an interior courtyard/entrance. This place would be a pain in the ass for that intersection if all pickups/drop-offs had do be done on Roosevelt or Indiana. I don't drive so I don't care much but it doesn't take much for that intersection to get backed up.

I don't know that I've seen a rendering of the Indiana side of the building to see where the actual main entrance is.

That question was answered in previous posts. The garage will come at a later date.

Is that blue forming going to wrap around the building as it rises?

Are those plates thicker than usual? I know iv'e brought this up before but how much thicker does it have to be for a resteraunt floor to a residential floor of a building of this size. They just look offly thick, but i could be wrong.

Probably a significant amount. The floor plates are pretty uniform. No different than the other high-rises you've watched rise.

Its hard to picture a tower at that corner that will be like 160 feet taller than OMP, and then a taller tower next to it. Go south loop. Can we get 1000sm going already.

It looks like there are concrete edge beams on the perimeter as well as between the columns that are giving the illusion of a very thick slab. I suspect with the wide column spacing of this building that a uniform slab as seen in other residential buildings isn't adequate.

I feel like the South Loop projects will be some of the most transformative in the neighborhood because of the impact on the skyline. This should really help form a better critical mass for more development in South Loop.

Shakespeare couldn't have worded it better.

Lowering a table - large form

installation

Detail showing the wheels that the form will roll out on once this floor has cured, it will then be re-used a few floors up.
