If all the pot shops closed there would be a huge surplus dump of vacant retail space in this city. The pot shops have been one of the few saving graces for landlords who aren't afraid of the stigma and don't like the look of perpetual 'For Lease' signs on their buildings. I can tell that the negative comments regarding the pot shops are out of insecurity or close-mindedness. I have never met a scary or seedy character in any pot shop, if anything, the friendliest people you will ever meet in this pretentious city.

600 Robson - Open House

Quote:
Neighbourhood Friendly Office Tower is Unable to Achieve Impossible Heights

600 Robson Street
As I had spent the previous week at home with the flu, I was looking forward to attending this open house as I liked the design, and was eager to get some fresh air. Though I went alone, as Darren had other plans to attend a super sized Urban Design Panel meeting that same day.

When I arrived, it still felt like a solitary experience; There were only a few people in attendance, and there was not even a model of the building in the this small room of the Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library. Apparently the model maker had been unable to finish it in time for the event.

That did not matter to the those who came in angry, but soon mellowed when they realized this building is only slightly taller than the office portion of the Capital Residences building. The design team has taken several steps to mitigate the impact to the affected residences, the chief among them being the excellent garden terrace on level 6, and the placement of the elevator core towards the central area of the property.

Love the alley created between Capital Residences and the new building. There should be retail with door facing it. That is a much needed covered (or partially covered) plaza and alley in the downtown neighbourhood.

Not a fan of the public plaza on Seymour, what's the point? Just another covered sleeping area for the homeless.

Do you see the homeless sleeping in the lane and covered square of Telus Garden? What about the convention centre? Key is to have strict enforcement.

this is true; and keep in mind commercial buildings have good enforcement since it is making a lot of money.

That's not an alley - it's a recessed entry to the building (it doesn't go all the way through to the actual alley)

Story on India Gate, one of the businesses being evicted from the site after 41 (!) years:

Maybe the guys from Changing City may have pictures but if I recall the building that was there before the current Capital Building had a Dark wall so maybe he is referring to that dark wall. I know that spot was not the nicest to look at back then. I use to spend hours and hours on Seymour because of the rerouting of all the buses as part of the construction of the Vancouver City Centre Station and Canada Line.

Edit: I found this from "What was there before?" Link: https://vancouverchange.wordpress.co...ol-residences/

So yes the wall was pretty dark before the current Capital Residence was built.

For the first time since I can remember, the shop on the corner (Time Frame) is no longer open for business. I'll miss the window displays.

I'm glad to see they are relocating and not closing altogether! I think the new location is a cool spot, and maybe even more fitting for what they sell and market.

Does anyone know "when" they are planing on braking ground on this project? Or is this another long term holding site for Bonnis.
Do they even have a website?

The last of the retail (Simons Bike Shop, City Cannabis) moved out in December, I think.

Keeping my eyes open for a fence to enclose the site.
Not sure if it has been formally approved by the DP yet.
