Was just at the airport for an appointment. Wow! What a place, what an improvement. Feels so big city.

Airport is really impressive, the passenger side more so than the public side. Seeing it all lit up and huge (comparatively) from the plane was amazing.

As I recall, you were very much against this airport, preferring the old structure and calling Winnipeg's new airport "bland" and "just like the others". Have you changed your mind now?

I was actually at the new terminal a few days ago, and my God, the place is amazing!

I felt that the overall vibe was really positive, and up beat than it was in the old terminal. Definitely, Winnipeg is in the big leagues now.

Definitely impressed...it felt very warm welcoming-ish.

They need more parking pay machines, but I'm sure more are on order (I hope, anyway)

No but those characteristics are not necessarily bad for an airport.

Got my first look of the new airport today dropping off the girlfriend. Very beautiful. A little dissappointed theres no observation deck to watch the planes take off and land for non-passengers. I always enjoyed doing that when dropping someone off at the old airport.

Also to nitpick some more what's with the children's play area on the arrivals. A small set of tunnels laying on the floor. Pretty lame.

Yeah, it's a shame they have that as a starter, but I'm sure that "play area" will evolve eventually. The old one had a fairly sized one in the mezzanine level of the old terminal.

The main play areas are on the air side. I don't think you'll get much of anything on the ground side.

wow is that for children or ferrets?

I am severely annoyed at the complete lack of attention paid to people coming to the airport forced to pick up others. This philosophy is completely wrong headed in my opinion.

That's how every airport is designed. People in general spend very little time on the ground side.

And like I said, it's a completely wrong-headed philosophy. I'm not saying there needs to be a ton of stuff there, but just a Tim Hortons? The worlds most pathetic childrens play area? It's laughably bad. I dread having to go to the airport and finding out the person I'm picking up has had their flight delayed by an hour or two.

So don't go to the airport without checking the flight status. The airport isn't the one with the wrong idea.

Give it some time, the airport may be in use but is far from being finished. The play area will get better, and Stellas has just opened on the second level beside the Red River shop. As well on Arrivals the liquor store will be joined by other retailers in the bays next to it.

If the airport is indeed a business, and it limits itself to providing services for a small segment of potential customers, then it has the wrong idea.

I've got unlimited 3G with MTS, Free Wi-Fi is not a panacea.

I wonder if they can just reuse the play area from the old airport. Nothing was wrong with it. But I hope you're right and the airport offers a bit more for the general public soon.
