As someone who grew up in this hood, I do think that this is so much better than what was there before.

But, a "vibrant" community? Maybe for the Soviet Union.

Transit-Oriented-Development (Buzz word du jour)? More like Development-Near-Transit.

"Vibrant Community"...haha. Being sandwiched between a freeway and a big box mall is vibrant in it's own way, I guess.

Starting to be a little underwhelming. A little Claridge-ish looking. But it's at Blair, so I don't care.

Phase one was supposed to be the 30 story tower but it ended up being this 23 story tower. I hope the 30 story tower is still coming.

For our travelers heading west: Welcome to Ottawa - city of blah boxes - you'll see many just like ME
For our travelers heading east: Thank you for visiting Ottawa - hope you enjoyed our blah boxes

I mean, it's a rental... adds density and is right next to an LRT station, can't ask for much more. It's a pretty nice looking rental if you ask me.

Not like they were going to do limestone walls and copper roofs... What did you expect?

This 24 story tower is the tallest to be built for this project.

Exactly. For a rental, I have no issues with this tower.

Oh silly me - what was I expecting?

Architecture for rentals or condos that is striking, different, Canadian style - Helsinki, Stockholm, Coppenhagen all provide great examples - heck even Lagos is ahead on their new builds.

We suck.

I do understand your point however, this is Ottawa and this Rental building and the other few to follow will help the working class folks/families to live in an area with everday amenities and also provide direct access to transportation to get them to and from work. It is an affordable option to the people who work hard but cannot afford to purchase a home. Once you start making rentals an architectual beauty, you drive up costs which then only caters to a certain type of renter which will not fill a building like this in this location.

You can still make affordable housing / rentals architecturally pleasing or nice to the eye. It doesn't matter whether its rentals or condos - Ottawa will simply rubber stamp anything that appears to be a box and nimby everything else

It's not terrible. For a rental in a suburban location, I have no issues with the design. Looks better than a lot of Claridge towers downtown.
