that shot shows sams at the same spot it always was, where the Ryerson Student Centre is now. The stoplight is for Gould street, and the white building with the "ison otel" signage is the one that burned down a few years ago on the south side of Gould.

I deleted my post about telephoto compression... but it does make sense to a much greater degree than I originally thought, and I think you're partly right Insertnamehere. Taking a better look at the photo, the larger light seems to be at Gerrard and is in the foreground (where the lady in the pink coat is crossing), not behind the "Sam" sign as it first seemed to appear to me. That would put the next traffic light down and the "P" parking sign at Dundas St.

A "now vs. then" comparison would be interesting.

Also of interest -- the provincial sign for highway 11, which Yonge was until downloaded in the later 1990s.

I think the next light down( where green P parking sign is) is Elm St. not Dundas which can't be seen clearly here. Did Elm street actually go through Yonge Street back then or is that just a short bit of road leading to parking?

Elm is between Gerrard and Gould, so I think it would appear much closer in this perspective. Walton St. sign is visible too, just behind the lady in pink. Could that be Elm just behind the two people in black? Then Gould beyond that?

This shot is so compressed visually. Part of what makes it really cool, but confusing.

Great to see the inclines in motion -- I've seen many still pics, but never action shots.
