The art gallery looks incredibly dirty in that last photo. For the love of God, power wash that building!

You got that right!! Presumably they'll do that after the North Plaza reconstruction is done with. I hope so, at any rate.

Nearing completion.... Although I'd have liked to see the lions lit up just a little more, this will be an accessible (no steps, railings, etc) smart-looking, truly "city centre" public square imo.

Opening at the end of August after they finish repairs when they had some events on the plaza.

I'm wondering if they'll stick to calling it "Art gallery Square?" Practical, but not attention-grabbing such as "Trafalgar Square, or "Place du Palais des Beaux Arts" Or will it be Robson Square North? I heard the title "Georgia Square" mentioned a number of times. Or just Vancouver Art Gallery Square? Quite OK, but a bit 'pedestrian': lacks pizazz or cachet.

^I like the sound of Gallery Square. Simple and classy. I suppose in the future it might be named after someone.

I'm really happy with how it's turned out overall. An open, uncluttered, hard-scape central plaza that Vancouver's always lacked. To me it's a modern, but timeless design. Having walked through a couple times now, I wish there would've been more separation from Georgia Street. Maybe a tight row of columnar trees?

Gallery Square might be a bit short-sighted given the VAG wants to move.

WRT the damage to the square - I wonder if it's a result of poor design
- i.e. failure to include suitable anchor points for tents, stage, lighting masts, etc.

Only in Vancouver would a simple project like this turn into a protracted mess. It's a flat, empty space; how hard can it be to get it done right?

You're right. This would NEVER happen in Montreal or Toronto

What about GEORGIA SQUARE. It's clean and simple and makes the perfect counterpoint to ROBSON Square.

As always, great pictures. Thanks, mcminsen.
Nice to see the exhibition of Claude Monet at the VAG.
BTW, is that grey forest fire smoke I'm seeing in the picture?

Yes, it's been extremely hazy in Vancouver for at least nine consecutive days now.

Do you seriously think that Vancouver is the only city on earth that suffers from construction delays?

Both Montreal and Toronto suffer from huge delays on public projects, including budget overruns. In fact I'd say it's a much bigger problem there than in Vancouver.

Interesting clarification. Thank you. (In fact, I thought that's what you might have meant, but was unsure).

Hope the power wash water jets are strong enough to knock down (and sink) those boats too.
