deconstructionism is a decadent, late-cultural form.

I have to agree, nothing cutting edge there. Some nice stuff but nothing to be jealous of.

Yeah right... if any of the aussie proposals were announced in Canada, you'd all wet your pants and gush over how "different" it is.

Some definitely would. I certainly wouldn't. At least I know where Alsop ended up.

Hrmm not exactly. I didn't wet my pants and gush over the ROM addition in Toronto for the same reason. Won't be long before people look it at and go WTF were they thinking (some already do).

Back to the Aussie proposal...just stop and look at this thing for awhile and try to make sense of what's going on. Looks like the architect came up with a design then decided to tac on as much different looking crap as he could for no ryhme or reason.

An example done properly, albeit a lot smaller than the one in Melbourne, would be the Ryerson Student Centre U/C in Toronto. Tame and different enough at the same time that you can really appreciate it. Everything serves a purpose rather than just solely trying to be different.

That thing from Melbourne doesn't agree with me. I don't understand this debate! TO is the financial capitol of Canada. After which is probably Vancouver, a distant second, then Montreal, and then Calgary. Canada is a third larger by population than Australia, and even though Sidney is considerrered the financial capitol, Melbourne is a close second, and either one is smaller than Toronto. I think TO's got some pretty nice office buildings, but also has an advatage of being larger. Sidney and Melboune also have some nice office buildings.

never heard of either place. Are they in the Capitol?

i honestly can't think of another city that in recent history has built consistently-boring office towers to the extent of Toronto.

And out of nowhere a stab at Toronto. The whole basis of your sad little thread, just to feed your sad little obsession with the city you can't stop thinking about.

dleung: What's the idiocy of my post? You guys are comparing office buildings from one country to another are'nt you? My comments for the ignorant person(s) who maybe don't understand what my post was about was that While Australia has very nice office towers (and so does TO), because of TO's size compared to other cities in Canada, the number of office buidings as well as design would be a potentially more dominant than cities in Australia! That's not a slam on Australia or a promo for Canada either. CHILL OUT!

Tall, the problem is your statement is just that - a bunch of statements. They don't really convey anything meaningful in the context of the current discussion.

There's one party led by dleung here that suggests Melbourne and Sydney, despite being smaller cities in both absolute and relative terms compared to Toronto, have more impressive architecture in their office buildings. The other group on the other hand suggests that Toronto does in fact have nice buildings and that it matches up, and it various cases compare favourably to those Australian cities.

But financial Capitol indeed, which totally makes complete sense!

What really gets me, is how many people on this board still don't get the difference between capitol and capital.

Maybe you should post a dictionary definition of each for those who are linguistically impaired.

Thought the new rules didn't permit masked individuals taking part in the riots?

I take offense sir, who said I was wearing a mask? Or rioting? In the cultural capitol, we are allowed to have as much cultural capital to our disposal as possible. I'm not too sure what they do in the capital though...

Sorry, I was under the impression you were making light of the recent riots by calling it "partying," and in doing so making more fun of the poor use of the english language on this forum.
