One key difference between this and UG is this is a "community" with many different uses, buildings, incomes, ect and you get some sweet views of Halifax.

Also this one hasn't been beaten into the ground by the HT ... yet ...
No it hasn't been beaten by them thank god. Still worried about that tower being approved however for other reasons.

I'm just curious, what phase of this development is currently approved? Are the four 10 story towers approved or just the demo/infilling?

Just the site preparation I believe. I've not seen a development agreement go before council for any of the phases yet. I'm not even sure they have clearance to infill yet, which is under federal jurisdiction I think.

HT porboably should be worried about this development. It might not have significance to them in itself, but if that tower goes up looking as nice as in the renderings, people could start looking at the Halifax side of the harbor and wondering why there isn't more of that here.

Once a little nice architecture gets built, it could potenitally burst the dam if people see it's not impossible to build something nice. And then ask why more doesn't get done, and the developers get to say "Ask Phil Pacey".

Boy wouldn't that be nice. Let's hope your statement comes to truth.

One positive to note here (in terms of how serious Fares is about making this go forward) is that they are already advertising it (ala the Trillium ads that appeared on buses last year) in places like the programs at Neptune. They are actively advertising/marketing future units, which makes it distinctly different from say the UG proposal which just seems to be silent.

A quick shot from the ferry of what they are doing to that warehouse. I can't tell if they are actually tearing it down. They have added what appears to be support beams in the middle of the large hope on the water side of the building.

Those support beams I have mentioned were actually framing for some cladding. I think they are turning that building into a sales office for the project. They also built a small deck on the top of the 1 storey piece of the building that is below where they put the new cladding/windows. The back half of the building that was being torn down is now almost gone.

The building on the right is a bit heavily looking but overall they are okay. Looks like a good fit for the area and a big step up from some previous projects, like those suburban looking townhouses they built 5-10 years ago.

Isn't the building on the right already built? And it looks like the building on the left is an exact carbon copy of the proposal... Any idea what up with that?

Already built? Nothing like that in exists in the city yet. I'm assuming these are the buildings that will be on the canal side of the site. I do really like them. I just hope its not all going to be grey. The street interaction looks great! I'm curious to know what that little portal building is in between the two larger ones. Perhaps an entrance to the underground parking?

The buildings remind me somewhat of the Olympic village here in Van
