This level of detail should probably be moved to the appropriate Vancouver forum thread. Yes?

That is a great picture!

What a beautiful bridge.

Toronto and Calgary have the height in towers, but Montreal and Vancouver have great collections of bridges.

Right now the BC government is studying options for a fixed link to the Sunshine Coast.
Here's the thread: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...wpost&t=218930
If the Langdale bridges option were built, we are talking about two suspension bridges with 1.5km spans - not only the two largest spans in Canada, but among the longest in the world.
If the bridges to Powell River were built, it's another 1.5km span and a 2.0km+ span. This would be the largest ever built, longer than the Akashi Kaikyo bridge in Japan, which is 1.9km long.

Impressive as well considering those windmills are 70 km away from the Jules-Dallaire complex. In fact, they're bordering Thetford Mines.

[LINK] stcatharinesstandard.ca - Bridge contract awarded to Quebec company

By Rob Houle
Friday, February 7, 2014 7:43:00 EST PM

"It’s a go.

Niagara Region councillors voted Thursday night to award the contract for the Burgoyne Bridge replacement to Pomerleau Inc. The Quebec-based company will build the bridge over Twelve Mile Creek linking St. Paul St. for $69,909,980. There is an $8 million contingency fund should the project run over budget. Rankin Construction was the second-lowest bid at $76,743,285, while the highest bid, from Aecon Construction & Materials Ltd., was $94,609,626.

Councillors voted 22-2 in favour of awarding the contract to Pomerleau and a contract of slightly more than $4 million to engineering firm Delcan Corp. to oversee the bridge construction.

...

Pomerleau had indicated it is prepared to start preliminary work on the bridge next week. Construction is expected to take 2½ years, meaning it would open to traffic in fall 2016."

"This replacement bridge will provide a new landmark crossing for St. Catharines. Spanning 300m across a beautiful river valley, the structure features a focal open-truss arch spanning across Highway 406 and Twelve Mile Creek, inspired by previous arch and truss bridge structures in the immediate area.

Design strategies aim at achieving a light and transparent effect within the natural setting. Proposed enhancements include open metal railings, shaped piers, landscaped medians and custom light standards that respond in a contemporary manner to the local shipyard industrial heritage." - dtah.com

Reminds me of Vimy Bridge (yes, that's what it's called. I guess they never realized it was an immensely inappropriate pun) in suburban south Ottawa.

I thought they had realized that and changed it to Vimy Memorial Bridge. Although in casual conversation it might still fall back to Vimy Bridge.

They should rename it to Stephen Harper Bridge.

Ya, I think it's officially Vimy Memorial Bridge, but as you've said, people will refer to it as just the Vimy Bridge.

The St. Andrews Lock and Dam near Selkirk, Manitoba could be considered a great Canadian bridge. It is built in a camere curtain style and I believe is the last one of its kind in the world.
