What a hauntingly beautiful building. I would love to walk through it all alone.

Walking past it is depressing. No city should have their icon be abandoned.

Not a skyscraper, but abandoned. Very eerie video of Montreal's Mirabel Airport, the white elephant of Canada.

I swear I saw this one in the Romania episode of Top Gear a few years ago. Except it had people in it.

Is Ponte vacant/abandoned? I know it's in a state of disrepair, and a few redevelopments have failed, but I hadn't heard that it'd be condememned and the residents kicked out.

i'm not sure. there was an article about a year ago (probably on yahoo) that said it was abandoned, but i've seen other articles that suggest it still houses people despite the neglect, decay and having 3-5 stories of garbage at the bottom.

There is a cool video on the Ponte somewhere on Youtube, about past, present and hopeful future conditions. I believe that most units are inhabited.

Here is an article on the building: http://www.businessinsider.com/ponte...-bloom-2013-11 video is at the bottom of the article.

Saw this thread was revived. Well they are in the process of destroying this Art Deco gem in Houston. So very stupid considering there are hardly any historic buildings left to begin with in downtown Houston.

Meh. Already mentioned on the previous page. Would've been nice to see them restore it and build around it, but it was stripped from its cool architectural details in the 70's anyway. I really like the replacement. We have many vacant buildings in downtown being restored right now.

It's already happening. Still seems to be some inventory to work with. That abandoned Days Inn may be unsalvageable, though...

From the city that keeps rebuilding - 3 of Beirut's most famous abandoned highrises"

Carlton Hotel
Brown Highrise in the middle
@mayloub

Now replaced by these highrises (the lit buildings in the middle)

All Murr Tower

Current talks to renovate it to the Beirut Trade Center (but nothing final yet)

Most Famous one is the Holiday Inn Beirut - It was opened a day before the 15 years civil war broke out - Plans are proposed for renovation but nothing concrete yet

Here it was when it was opened the day before the war broke out in 1974:
@yabeirut

@otell

It's hard to believe the transformation from 1997 to 2010
@Johngrimshaw

@Fadi

you can see both Al Murr Tower and Holiday Inn Beirut in this picture (in the middle)
