Yep, that's a Flame if I've ever seen one.
Ryan Smyth, a solid 20-goal guy even at 35, who plays his heart out every night... not sure I'd call that "washed up".

The cap hit would suck though.

This looks to be one of the more entertaining drafts in years. New team (maybe a name and jersey, maybe not), bizarre pre-draft trades, rumours aplenty...

I'll grant you that having a player who actually seems to try every night would be nice.

He'd be the only one, but it would be nice. Perhaps it would inspire others.

"SportsnetSpec
Richards to LA will expedite Smyth to EDM. Kings can't take back significant salary from Oil. Told deal WILL happen."

The hockey world seems to be shitting on the Canucks right now. Except the players, they voted for Daniel.
Fine, "brought home" or "presented with".

Crazy Philly deals..

It's kind of bizarre that Mike Richards makes less than Ryan Smyth.

He'd have made an awesome Flame

Yikes. Philly fans may want to check their GM's sanity.

Philly's gameplan:

1. Make trades to get rid of high cap hits, ridiculously long contract
2. Sign 31 year old goaltender to high cap hit, ridiculously long contract

Genius!

But the Oilers have a shit ton of cap room top play with. Every young developing team needs a beat up veteran with duct tape and stiches holding him together. At first I wasn't to keen on bringing back Smyth....but the more I think of it...that guy is going to be so excited to play here and his excitment and heart is going to rub off.

Winnipeg could use a Ryan Smyth Are they even at the cap basement yet?

Still in shock about the Flyers. They may have just ruined their team. The only reason WHY they made the Finals are now gone.

Eastern Conference teams should be rejoicing right now. I can hear Nicko's party horns from here.

I have a buddy in Philly whose email to me just got bounced from my company's email filters for being too profane.

I am not making that up.

There are rumours that Smyth might be coming to the Flames, but I'm not sure that would be a good move, we are already full of overpaid 2nd liners. I bet Smyth will end up in Edmonton for a guy like Paajarvi or Cogliano and a pick.

So it is offical that he is coming to the Flames?

I'm happy he is coming, but the Flames NEEDED to trade Hagman/Stajan/Kotalik.

The Flames would be dumb to go after Smyth, unless their goal is to have the oldest, most expensive roster in the NHL. Or, just to stick it to Edmonton out of spite.
