Any news about this building? i found a news article that said that the building is schedued to start reconstructing very soon....

Great news, although I thought at first it said the original waterview tower would start reconstructing very soon... damn!

Oh well, this should still be an 8-900 foot building, good work Chi town!

Now only if the Chicago Spire developers could get some money and fill that big hole up.

Guys that article is from July, nothing new there. Construction will start whenever they are able to get financing lined up and all their ducks in a row. This will be the first place you'll see news of any impending construction, just keep checking in and you'll know when its going to happen.

Where did you hear that this tower will be in the 800-900 foot range? I'm guessing 600 to 750.

as has been noted NUMEROUS times in this thread, based solely on the only renderings of the redesign that heave been made public, the top of the new design appears to line up somewaht closely with the top of the neighboring 77 w. wacker building (R.R. Donnelly), which stands 668' tall. so if those renderings are at all accurate as to what will eventually be built on the old waterview hulk, then we can expect a building in the 650-700' range.

Im a little confused. I found something weird at wikipedia. it said that construction resumed on the building but i highly doubt it. I don't live in chicago, i live in the suburbs outside of chicago. Could someone confirm that construction has not resumed?

Look, we've said it 1,000,000 times here. As soon as constructions resumes THIS will be the first place to know. Not Wikipedia, not the Tribune, not an article written in July. This thread will be going bonkers as soon as it happens.

From my perch at 161 N Clark St, I could see about 5 or 6 engineer-types wandering around the roof of Waterview yesterday with rolls of blueprints.

Looks like some planning going on. Sorry, no actual construction occurring yet....

Why not just wait until the economy's better and build the original thing?

Same thing goes for the Chicago Spire and Waldorf Astoria... Chicago's skyline could be the world's best

Because

A. The original design was economically unfeasible which is why it failed in the first place

B. The market for condos is NEVER AGAIN going to be as hot as it was in 2006-2007. So even when the economy recovers, there simply won't be the kind of demand necessary to justify such a skinny design.
