Gent, Belgium (2016)

The city of Gent in Belgium has a small city centre and lots of medieval buildings. In my opinion Gent is nicer and more beautiful than the big tourist attraction city of Bruges. You certainly need to visit Gent after sunset. Every day monuments and streets are lit until midnight. All photos: 18 and 19 November 2016.

1. Sint-Baafskathedraal (cathedral).

2.

3. Home of the Ghent Altarpiece (or the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb), a large artwork made by Hubert en Jan van Eyck in 1432.

4.

5. Gothic part of city hall, built between 1519 and 1539.

6.

7. Next to the gothic part, the renaissance part of city hall, built between 1595 en 1618.

8. The Belfort (belfry).

9.

10. The view from Sint-Michielsbrug (bridge) is known as Gent's most beautiful view, as you can see three towers in a row: Sint-Niklaaskerk (church), the Belfort (belfry) and the Sint-Baafskathedraal (cathedral).

11. Art centre 'Vooruit' in a 100-year-old art-deco monument.

12. View from the Belfort (belfry).

13. You can take the stairs or the elevator.

14. The Gravensteen, a medieval castle in the middle of the city.

15. The Belfort (belfry).

16. 'Graffity alley' (Werregarenstraat).

19. Facade of the Oude vismijn (old fish market).

20. The medieval castle The Gravensteen.

22. Left the Groot Vleeshuis (covered meat market) from the beginning of the 15th century.

23. Sint-Niklaaskerk (church).

25. Klein Begijnhof O.L.V. ter Hoyen (beguinage), founded in 1235.
