Walking around in Wuhan (Autumn 2007)

All pics within this thread have been taken by myself between late August and October 2007. Those who regularly visit the Chinese section of Skyscrapercity will know them. Those who don't, enjoy!

11th Railway Bureau's Headquarters - a new-built highrise of 100m.

East Lake - China's biggest lake within a city...

Guiyansi in Hanyang - an ancient temple famous for its' 500 handcrafted Buddha statues

Some night shots. I am not good at this though...

Elevated Metro in Hankou

Yellow Crane Tower - probably the most iconic building of Wuhan

Had some bad luck with the foggy weather that day...

More views from Huanghelou and its' nearby hills...

Inside the hilly park surrounding Yellow Crane Tower...

Walking around in Hankou

Minsheng Bank Tower - the tall one in the pic below - is Wuhan's highest building (331m) right now. But it will soon be dwarved by several upcoming projects within Wuhan's future CBD...

From my experience, most people in Wuhan are usually quite laid-back and friendly. They are known to be very hot-tempered though.

Thx, guys!

@Mkmillenium: Sure thing. The poverty issues are indeed too severe to be resolved overnight. But China is on a good way.

TODAY'S UPDATE:

Wuchang Yangtze Riverside

From the Yangtze shore in Wuchang u have a great view on Hankou and Hanyang. The skyline may not be very dense yet, but things will change drastically during the next 5 years (Wuhan CBD, Wuhan Tiandi, Splendid Yangtze Phase II and III =>see Zorg's Construction Thread in the City/Metro Compilations Section).

Splendid Yangtze Phase I

continue...

Yantze River at Qingshan

Qingshan is Wuhan's base of Heavy Industry. Almost everyone living here seems to be connected to "Wuhan Steel" (aka "Wugang" / "WISCO") or one of its' countless subbranches in some way. As there is not so much (cityscape-wise) interesting to see here yet, I am only posting a view pics of the Qingshan riverside and its' gigantic new bridge under construction...

Parts of Qingshan including the new Tainxingzhou-Bridge as seen in Google Earth
(the heavy smoke is coming from WISCO and SINOPEC)

I am not sure about the actual heigth of those pylons, but believe me when I say they are FREAKIN' high...

Here u can see how the bridge crosses a quite big island in the middle of the river - Tianxingzhou

It's extremely cool to see all those quality pictures of Wuhan(A city which is not much represented here.)
Maybe a silly question but do you live in Wuhan? It seemed like you knew where the construction was going on etc.

Anyway, this thread don't get enought attention. It was by randomnes I clicked on the Asia-Pacific section, now I'am glad I did. I'll try to visit it more often.

@Bergenser:

Glad u like the thread. Adressing ur question: Well, I do not exactly live in Wuhan now, but I did so for more than a year back in 2005/2006. As my wife is from Wuhan I am still going there every year. So, I guess I am quite familiar to the city.

Groovy stuff O'Lord. Might I be so bold as to suggest posting this thread, and subsequent picturegraph threads, in My Cities - International? The poor China subforum barely sees the light of day.

Thanks guys! Perhaps u r right, Bob. I think I will do as u suggested. Anyway, here comes the rest of my Wuhan pics (part 1 of 2)!

Construction and destruction in Hankou seen from Skytrain (excuse blurry quality):

This is going to be something large, perhaps a shopping mall (don't know though)

Quite big areas are undergoing reconstruction...

Random shots

New highrise at Xiaodongmen (Wuchang)

Old houses seen from Skytrain...

Splendid Yangzte again...

Office building at Jiedaokou Crossing

Those spots on the water are actually two guys swimming. They jumped from the ferryboat right into the Yangtze River... Crazy!

Wuhan Tiandi / Yongqing Area Reconstruction Project

What u see here is only the beginning of a huge scale development by Shui On Land... A 250m+ skyscraper is also approved.

Wuhan Times Square again...

My next post will be the final series of pics within this thread.
