SASKATOON, Canada ~my old 'hood~

Hi All! I should preface this thread with a note telling you that a Dude named Echoes just did a very cool stroll through this place and posted a photo tour about a week or so ago. Check it out. He's got a good grasp of the history of this Town and provides a nice introduction to the environs.

In any case, I've still got a lot of meat to add to these old Saskatoon bones. This Town seems to be evolving in a good direction as of late.

The only regret I have is that I couldn't capture the Native/First Nations population, as they always declined to be photographed, especially in the style I employ here. This impasse has deep roots. Canada's Indian Act was a horribly racist document of laws used to destroy everything any tribe of humans cares about. On the Prairies especially, the wounds have yet to heal. Heavy.

Clouds, no rain.

It's lookin' a bit like Springfield....

I think it's interesting how western cities seem to have grander downtown streets, I suppose they were just more optimistic.

Nice thread. Saskatoon's architecture and urban pacing looks a lot like the outer neighborhoods of Minneapolis proper, you could probably make a thread of the two together and people would be hard pressed to say which was which.

Very, very well done! It's nice to see Saskatoon getting some more coverage on here. It's funny, I've taken some shots almost identical to yours, of which I no longer feel obliged to include in my second tour!

And thank you for the kind words in your intro!

Thanks folks, for the interesting and relevant comments.

Echoes, I swear we walked/rode the same paths only days apart. Yet there hasn't been a Saskatoon series posted here in a while. What gives? I almost wasn't going to thread. But in any case, each pic is unique. Here are a few I left out after viewing your post:

How's that for walkin' in your footsteps? We should've done the tour together in conjuction with a pub crawl of all the new pubs and eateries this town has to offer! Next time, mate!

So I'll finish this thread off with some last awesome memories...

Nice photos.
I'm going to call you on the "German Tourists", however. The girl is my daughter's best friend and anything but German .

Are houses cheaper to rent and buy in Saskatoon than other Canadian cities?

Ha ha! Are you sure the man is her father? Although they were across the street, I swear he spoke in a thick German accent and after my first pic, he called the little girl over to join him for that shot. A super friendly moment in time anyway. That's why I included it, even though it's a bit blurry. And what do you mean by, "ANYTHING but German?"

pallo, as I live in Taiwan, it would be better for a local to answer your question about comparative Canadian housing rents and prices, but they're definitely cheaper than Vancouver's! You'd be surprised though. Vancouver metro and you're looking at similar price points. It's unreal, and they're overpriced, but as long as people are buying....

That's uncanny! We were definitely walking in each other's footsteps for those shots.

(Though your camera and skills are far superior to mine! )
