A great video of a great time. The eighties were the last decade when a sense of optimism and unlimited possibility was a dominant characteristic of the cultural consciousness. This video reminds me of the sense of life that existed then.

as much as I loved the 80's, what sticks out in my mind is the cold war,Regan and Thatcher, sky high interest rates and the recession. Not to mention some of the most horrific building forms outside of the 70's. But hey, have at her

Thatcher? I was talking about the North American cultural attitude and outlook. Is it possible you look at things through the lense of someone born and raised somewhere else?

And regarding "the recession" and "high interest rates," they ended in 1982 and were followed by one the most vigorous and sustained periods of economic growth in North American history. Moreover, Reagan, who is now judged by history to be one of America's greatest presidents (and, by the way, the one who [I]brought an end to the "cold war" by hastening the demise of the Soviet Union), was re-elected by his people in a historic landslide in 1984.

Didn't Reagan introduce trickle down economics? The beginning of the end for the middle class? And all this spreading of democracy and freedom was a facade then just like it is now.

Don't tell the public the truth, just tell them what they want to hear. That's what makes a president great. "Tear down that wall"...what a joke.

Nice videos.

A trailer from the Vancouver Archives that will screen these clips in November as part of Vancouver's 125th anniversary:

Great finds.

Love the archival footage in the first video.

Regarding the second video, Caligula had a good, long run at that theatre. If I recall, it ran for many, many months, maybe more than a year or so.

Cool videos.

Here is one i just made myself last night. All the footage I took from the Canada Line Bridge back in late October. I hope to maybe make a series out of this, taken from different parts of the city.

It is best viewed at 720p.

This is a promo for a condo tower in Calgary by IBI/HB. But there are images of other condos by IBI in Vancouver, including a scale wooden model of Burrard Gateway at 0:52. Nothing spectacular, just fyi.

Proud to say that they loved the "best-ever" event, and they absolutely loved the city...the weather wasn't that bad either, we were fearing downpours as forecasted but it wasn't more than a drizzle and that was only parts of the day, it was mostly just overcast.
