SACRAMENTO | Kimpton Sawyer Hotel | 230 FT | 16 FLOORS

Design plans approved for Kings arena complex hotel, condo tower

BY RYAN LILLISRLILLIS@SACBEE.COM

A 16-story hotel and condo tower planned for the downtown Sacramento arena complex got the green light from the city’s Planning Commission on Thursday, a pivotal step that allows the Kings to begin construction of the project.

Planning commissioners praised the project before voting unanimously to approve the design plans. Commissioner Kim Mack said changes made to the design were “phenomenal” and joked that she wanted to get on the list for one of the 69 apartments that will fill the top four floors of the building.

So this will be along J Street? Those last two renders make it look really nice, but the first two are questionable. This one will certainly depend upon the materials used and the finishes on the work. This could end up looking pretty amazing, or pretty bad. Being born and raised in Sactown, I'll hold out for pretty amazing.

That's pretty slick. It will really help fill in the streetwall on J St.

A few more renderings from the arena website:

These tweets have some pictures of the model at the planning and design commission hearing. I'm not totally sold on the design/massing of the building myself, but glad to see this will essentially be built with the arena and complete the site at the same time.

Also, height should be 230'. My mistake.

Great to see some highrise construction again in downtown Sacramento! From that aerial shot, it looks like some of the low-rise (presumably) historic buildings along the K-Street mall are getting rehabbed.

^ Nice pics and I drive by that site almost every day and it looks like one or two more floors to top off, its amazing the work going on around the Golden One Center and I believe that this will lead to something bigger..

Oh btw when I get family and friends in from Colorado, Illinois and other places I always take them for a downtown tour.

It's definitely close to topping out, but still a ways out to opening...

Downtown hotel tower topped out, crane coming down this week

Mar 6, 2017

Ben van der Meer Staff Writer Sacramento Business Journal

Downtown Sacramento’s newest high-rise has topped out, and one of the construction cranes serving it will come down later this week.

On Friday through Sunday, a portion of J Street along the Kimpton hotel tower project north of Golden 1 Center will be closed to allow one crane to be removed.

The 16-story hotel tower, which includes top-floor condominiums, some office space and several retail spaces on the first two floors, is still set to open this summer.

A news release from the Sacramento Kings, which developed neighboring Golden 1 Center, announced the pending crane removal. JMA Ventures LLC and the Kings are the developers for the 250-room Kimpton tower, while Swinerton Builders is the general contractor.
