They're so completely unlike any housing anywhere else in the city--old Calgary has very little residential brick, and is mostly single-family, freestanding houses. I wonder if there's more to them than just being a unique one-off. (I also wonder what they're like inside.)

There are a few other rowhouses similar to those in the inner city. I'll try to get shots of them on my photo walk this Friday.

This is the one section of the city that defies the standard Victorian shopfront and bay-and-gable residential forms that otherwise characterize Toronto almost exclusively. It really feels different around here, and you sort of wish that a bit more of the city looked like this.

In terms of urban fabric, it is by far my favorite section of Toronto. In a few spots, with the right angle, you can almost imagine what could have been Toronto version of Old Montreal.

that photo makes it look like a sort of half-midwestern boston. it's... handsome. i think that's the word. it's dignified and solid and stately.

Whoops, I was thinking of these.

Which means I can't place this picture off the top of my head. Given the orientation to the Bow, somewhere on the east side?

It literally must be the only block in the entire centre city that I don't have some memory of. But I never spent any time near the casino, or in Vic Park, so I guess it makes sense. A bit miffed to have somehow missed that, though. Nice block.

I know what you're saying but there are a few other nodes around town like this such as King West, Spadina, the Entertainments District and parts of Parkdale off the top of my head.

Mine

Haha those are the ones that first came into my mind when I thought of which other ones we have that I know of actually. The ones I posted (photo is from Surreal) are right in front of The Guardians in Victoria Park. There are a set in Eau Claire, as well as a few sets in the Beltline

Great back alleys. Montreal has them in spades. NDG, East end, V St. Pierre, LaSalle, Cote-des-Neiges, The Point, St. Henri, Little Burgundy...even parts of Westmount and Outremont
